Snow Removal Operator

Job Summary:**

The Snow Removal Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient removal of snow and ice from Calvin University’s campus, ensuring accessibility and safety for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role is crucial for maintaining operational continuity during winter weather events.

Job Responsibilities:**

* Operate a variety of snow removal equipment, including plows, snow blowers, shovels, and salt/sander spreaders, in a safe and efficient manner.
* Clear snow and ice from roadways, parking lots, sidewalks, building entrances, and other designated areas across campus.
* Apply de-icing agents (salt, sand, etc.) as needed to prevent ice formation and improve traction.
* Perform pre-operation checks and basic maintenance on snow removal equipment to ensure proper functionality.
* Monitor weather conditions and respond promptly to snow and ice events, often outside of regular working hours.
* Adhere to all safety protocols and university policies during snow removal operations.
* Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding equipment issues, unusual conditions, or additional needs.
* Assist with other groundskeeping and maintenance tasks during periods of no snow, as directed.
* Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.

Job Qualifications:**

* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
* Proven experience operating snow removal equipment (plows, snow blowers, etc.).
* Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, on short notice during winter weather events.
* Physical ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), bend, stoop, stand, and walk for extended periods in various weather conditions.
* Strong understanding of safety procedures related to operating heavy equipment and working in cold weather.
* Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Familiarity with Calvin University campus layout preferred.
