Supervisor, Production Shipping Receiving Material Handling

Provide leadership, direction and hands-on involvement in assigned production areas at the Veeder-Root Factory including the Shipping and Receiving areas of the facility. Drive tactical execution to optimize Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost through the effective use of Daily Management, Problem Solving and Kaizen. Provide mentoring and guidance to hourly associates. Act as a Champion of continuous improvement using the Vontier Business System (VBS) methodologies by initiating/planning Kaizens to drive operational improvements. Able to effectively formulate and execute countermeasures to address shortcomings to Key Performance Indicator (KPI’s) targets by using the problem solving process.

Key Responsibilities
• Manage hourly associates performing the following duties daily: time and attendance collection/reporting; vacation planning; ordering of supplies; and plant production planning.
• Respond to Safety incidences and injuries with an extreme sense of urgency including immediately putting in place containment actions; driving to root cause using the investigation process and implementing countermeasures.
• Meet operational performance targets while working within the guidelines of the Union contract language as well as HR and EH&S policies.
• Work closely with HR to resolve grievances and administer disciplinary action for HR and EH&S policy violations as well as to address Quality issues.
• Partner with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering to respond appropriately to quality issues including putting in place containment actions and driving to root cause using the problem-solving process.
• Assign manufacturing work centers focusing on the cost control of manufacturing including variances, labor efficiency and utilization, work center rates and expenses.
• Lead with discipline and take ownership of the execution of Daily Management in production areas to positively impact performance relative to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory and Productivity.
• Coordinate with Material Planning, Production Planning, and Customer Service to ensure that labor and overall capacity matches future demand forecasts.
• Execute assigned tasks related to Policy Deployment (PD) objectives and achievement of KPI targets.
• Take ownership for and drive with discipline the execution of the Shipping and Receiving areas to positively impact performance relative to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory and Productivity.
• Supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments, and preparing items for shipment. Study shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
• Oversee incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
• Determine space requirements and position of shipment in boxcars and trucks and lay out position of shipment.
• Determine routing and legal load limits of trucks according to established schedules and weight limits of states.
• Inspect loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications.
• Inspect material handling equipment for defects and notify maintenance personnel or contact outside service facility for repair.
• Direct movement of shipments from production areas to shipping and receiving platform and to storage and work areas.
• Lead Export Control Policy to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
• Compile records of unfilled orders.
• Post weight and shipping charges.
• Prepare bills of lading.
• May assist workers in shipping and receiving activities.
• Other duties as assigned by assigned Focus Factory Manager.

Background and Skills
• 2 to 3 years of leadership experience required, including front line supervision preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree or 4 to 6 years of relevant and related experience in a manufacturing industry required.
• Knowledge of and experience in the Toyota Production System, Danaher Business System or other Continuous Improvement System.
• Solid data analysis and reporting skills.
• Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment preferred.
• Basic understanding of Microsoft Office products required; strong competency in the use of Microsoft Office products preferred.
• Basic understanding of financial concepts.
• Relevant experience in materials-related functions such as procurement and planning preferred.
