Associate Director/Director – Corporate Ratings (Natural Resources) – Brazil
The Latin American Corporates and Infrastructure team is currently seeking an Associate Director based out of our São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro or Monterrey’s office.
Qualitative credentials will weigh meaningfully in the selection of the candidate. A healthy sense of intellectual curiosity is critical, along with a willingness and ability to attack and explain topics of analytical complexity. We’ll Count on You To:
- Perform analysis of key quantitative and qualitative factors influencing the credit quality of companies in the LATAM Natural Resources and Airlines team.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive financial models.
- Present analysis of companies to internal credit rating committees.
- Conduct meetings with Natural Resources and Airlines management teams.
- Involvement in communicating rating rationale to external audiences (primarily institutional investors, sell-side analysts and media) in meetings, conference calls, press releases and written research reports.
- Write timely and effective research on topical issues.
- Participate in the evaluation of other credits within the team, as well as other related credit groups.
- Represent Fitch in panel discussions and conferences arranged by industry associations, regulatory bodies etc.
- Mentor junior members of the Natural Resources and Airlines team.
- Participate in meetings with Natural Resources and Airlines executive-level management teams to strengthen understanding of their business and industry.
What You Need to Have:
- Bachelor's degree at minimum, MBA or other advanced degree a plus;
- CFA candidate preferred, CFA/CPA a plus.
- 7+/10+ years of credit-related experience, ideally in the natural resources sector.
- Strong ability to quickly identify key risk factors in a transaction;
- Excellent Excel and financial modelling skills to support analysis, along with sound understanding of capital structures and financial documentation;
- Proven ability to formulate and deliver clear and concise opinions backed by robust analytical rationale, with regular interaction expected with ratings committees, issuers, bankers and other external parties;
- Ability to ask probing questions of companies and their advisers and to remain fully informed about sector trends to assess their impact on specific transactions; and
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills in English, and in Portuguese or Spanish
What Would Make You Stand Out:
- A deep understanding of and a keen interest in the Mining, Pulp&Paper and Airlines sectors;
- A professional background in capital markets and/or credit analysis and well-developed financial statement analysis and modeling skills;
- A strong pattern of leadership and the ability to proactively and successfully interact with various stakeholders, both within and outside of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and display a strong degree of flexibility to take on additional responsibilities, as required.
