Overview
In addition to our traditional payments’ portfolio, Mastercard is aggressively expanding into new payment flow and leveraging the digital and connected world of people and economies to deliver faster, reliable, and more efficient propositions to make payments – send or receive money.

The Cross Border program is part of the wider Disbursement & Remittances business that we are looking to expand at a compounded rate of 50% per year for the next 5 years. We are building solutions to enable payments in an any-to-any format – anyone, anywhere can send or receive money using any channel – money exchanges, banks, digital wallets, cards or fintech apps – providing a seamless and unified experience for both individuals and business to move money.

We are looking for a passionate, innovative and experienced Director with a proven track record in leading the evolution of software products and their implementation in various markets – comfortable both working hands-on as well as guiding and mentoring a team of engineers and critically always challenging the status quo and pushing and driving the technology roadmap to ensure that the solutions leverage technology to the maximum extent

As the Director, you will be responsible for leading the engineering function for your domain and driving engineering excellence across all aspects of delivery. You are the technology lead and the domain owner deciding the fate of your domain.

Role
• Manage a team of highly skilled engineers and deliver software development projects using agile methodologies
• Own the technology outcomes for your domain.
• Responsible for all the technical and operational metrics and accountable to ensure that the services are delivering the intended business and technology benefits
• Own the lifecycle and ensure that solutions align to Mastercard architecture and engineering principles
• Own the experience of your domain – to your teams, to your stakeholders and partners and to your customers
• Ensure team delivers high-quality code while you contribute to key components code reviews and code authoring
• Define and help implementing the NFRs to meet the operational parameters of the platform
• Define and implement systems and processes to ensure fast and error-free release of features and capabilities
• Support & actively collaborate with your product counterparts in ensuring the product propositions continue to evolve and meet both business and technology imperatives

About You
• 10-15 years of experience designing, developing, and delivering enterprise-grade, scalable, resilient, and high-performance software solutions.
• Deep expertise in modern architectural patterns, including RESTful APIs, event-driven architectures, microservices, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles.
• Proven experience leading the design and development of complex Java and Spring Boot applications in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, architectural best practices, and secure coding standards.
• Demonstrated success working within Agile and DevOps environments, with a track record of delivering high-quality solutions through modern software delivery practices.
• Extensive experience with Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies, including planning, estimation, development, testing, deployment, and operational support.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, competing priorities, and complex business challenges while maintaining a strong sense of urgency and accountability.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to drive alignment across technical, business, and executive audiences.
• Passion for innovation, emerging technologies, and continuously improving engineering practices.
• Experience mentoring, coaching, and developing engineering talent within high-performing teams and collaborative cultures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to articulate architecture decisions, technology strategies, and their business implications to senior leadership, customers, and executive stakeholders.
• Proven experience leading teams through software planning, estimation, and delivery of large-scale, complex programs using data-driven and metrics-based approaches.
• Strong leadership and people management capabilities, with experience building, motivating, and developing high-performing engineering teams.
• Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly learn, evaluate, and implement new technologies, frameworks, and tools.
• Experience managing budgets, financial planning, and resource allocation within technology organizations.
