Youth Basketball Scorekeeper

SUMMARY : The Youth Basketball Scorekeeper is responsible for accurately recording scores, tracking game time, and documenting other game information during youth basketball games. This position works closely with officials and staff to ensure games run smoothly and comply with Park District rules. This is a PT-3 position with benefits listed below.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

- None

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Prepare the game area before play by setting up the scorers table, chairs, scorebook, scoreboard, and designated seating areas as needed for the assigned facility.

- Before games begin, inspect the court and surrounding areas and report or address any safety concerns.

- Complete and submit all required timesheets, game results, and other paperwork to the Athletic Department within the required timeframe.

- After games, return scorekeeping equipment and other materials to their proper locations and help keep the gym, bleachers, and spectator areas clean and organized.

- Follow the setup procedures for each assigned location. Equipment placement and responsibilities may vary by site, and staff may be scheduled to work at different facilities throughout the season.

- Interact positively with youth, coaches, parents/guardians, and team members.

- Communicate with other Park District staff, supervisors, and team leaders as needed.

- Actively uphold and contribute to the Wilmette Park District Comprehensive and Strategic Plan, including the Guiding Principles and Strategic Priorities.

- Actively contribute to the Park District's sustainability goals.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Actively support the safety program that will effectively control and reduce accidents.

- Obey the practical safety rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Wilmette Park District safety program that are pertinent to the activities conducted by the department.

- Become familiar with and follow safety procedures of the Wilmette Park District including, but not limited to, fire, severe weather, and evacuation procedures.

- Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices, or conditions observed to immediate supervisor and Human Resources and Risk Manager.

- Attend and participate in required safety trainings.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

- Must be at least 16 years old

- Ability to articulate age-specific basketball rules to participants, coaches, and parents/guardians

- Ability to project across a large area with clear and concise language

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

- Must possess CPR/First Aid certificates within three months of hiring, provided by the Park District.

- Complete annual District trainings including, but not limited to, Sexual Harassment Training and Avoiding Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens annually and Mandated Reporter every three years.

- General work area is indoors, in a smoke-free environment, with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting.

- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

HOURS:

- Must be able to work weekends

- General hours of duty will be approved by the Recreation Sports Supervisor
