JOB SUMMARY : The Platform Tennis Instructor supports the operation and programming of the Wilmette Platform Tennis Club by providing platform tennis instruction to participants of various ages and skill levels. This position works with the Paddle Supervisor to deliver lessons, clinics and programs while helping maintain a safe, welcoming and organized environment for participants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach group and individual platform tennis lessons for participants of varying ages and skill levels.
- Develop lesson plans that identify instructional goals and include appropriate drills, activities and skill development.
- Teach platform tennis fundamentals, rules, techniques and strategies in a safe and encouraging environment.
- Monitor participant progress and adjust instruction based on skill level and program needs.
- Maintain accurate attendance and program records as required.
- Assist with clinics, leagues, special events and other platform tennis programs as assigned.
- Build positive relationships with participants, parents, staff and organizations within the platform tennis community.
- Provide friendly, responsive service to participants and other customers.
- Help maintain a safe, welcoming and organized environment at the Wilmette Platform Tennis Club.
- Communicate and work cooperatively with the Paddle Supervisor, platform tennis staff and other Park District employees.
- Support teamwork and contribute to a positive, professional work environment. Actively uphold and contribute to the Wilmette Park District's Comprehensive and Strategic Plan, including its Guiding Principles and Strategic Priorities.
- Actively contribute to the Park District's sustainability goals.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively support the safety program that will effectively control and reduce accidents.
- Obey the safety rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Wilmette Park District safety program that are pertinent to the activities conducted by the department.
- Become familiar with and follow safety procedures of the Wilmette Park District, including, but not limited to, fire, severe weather, and evacuation procedures.
- Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices, or conditions observed to the immediate supervisor or to the Human Resources/Risk Management department.
- Attend and participate in required safety training.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Strong platform tennis background and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of platform tennis fundamentals, rules, techniques and basic strategies.
- Ability to teach platform tennis skills to participants of varying ages and ability levels.
- Ability to explain drills, activities and instructions clearly in individual and group settings.
- Ability to read and understand schedules, safety rules, lesson plans and Park District procedures.
- Ability to prepare basic lesson plans, attendance records and other program documentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with participants, parents, staff and the public.
- Ability to provide instruction in a positive, patient and encouraging manner.
- Ability to recognize unsafe conditions and respond appropriately.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and use good judgment when carrying out assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to work cooperatively with the Paddle Supervisor, fellow instructors and other Park District employees.
- Ability to provide friendly and professional customer service.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools and controls
- Regularly required to reach with hands and arms
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Must possess CPR/First Aid certificates within three months of hiring, provided by the Park District
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including the sun, heat, humidity, and rain
- The noise level is moderate to high at times
HOURS:
- Schedule may vary and may include daytime, evening and weekend hours based on program needs
- Additional schedule to be determined by the Paddle Supervisor
