Job Title: Senior Tax Specialist Job Description The Senior Tax Specialist oversees sales and use tax compliance across all states, leads tax planning and reporting activities, and ensures accurate and timely filing of all state and local tax returns. This role combines hands-on preparation of tax filings with research, policy development, and cross-functional collaboration, particularly within a construction-focused environment. The Senior Tax Specialist serves as the primary in-house tax resource, working closely with external tax partners and internal stakeholders to maintain compliance and support strategic business decisions. Responsibilities

- Prepare, file, and manage sales and use tax returns for state and local jurisdictions, including filing in every state as required.
- Research and verify applicable tax rates, bidding localities, and exemptions to ensure accurate tax calculation and compliance.
- Complete 2535 state and local tax returns per month using local and state tax portals.
- Obtain and manage tax clearances for various jurisdictions as needed.
- Assist with internal and external tax audits by providing required documentation, responding to inquiries, and supporting audit resolutions.
- Prepare, process, and maintain all documentation related to the accounting cycle, with a focus on tax-related entries and reconciliations.
- Confirm the accuracy of records and documents related to tax reporting and preparation, including reconciliations to the general ledger.
- Help design, implement, and refine tax policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and internal standards.
- Evaluate managerial and operational processes to identify tax compliance risks and recommend improvements.
- Lead all tax-related planning and reporting activities, including coordination of corporate tax return filings with external tax partners.
- Stay current on federal, state, and local tax and accounting laws, and advise business leaders on best practices and regulatory changes.
- Assist in developing business and investment strategies that support tax optimization and compliance.
- Assist in creating and improving policies and procedures for collecting tax information from department leaders and managers.
- Influence and improve tax-related processes, including manual data collection and research workflows, to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with accounting and finance teams to ensure alignment between tax reporting and general ledger accounting.
- Utilize ERP systems and spreadsheets to manage tax data, perform analyses, and support reporting requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the broader finance and accounting function.

Essential Skills

- Bachelors degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or an equivalent field.
- 5+ years of experience in a tax-related position.
- Proven experience with sales tax and sales and use tax compliance, including state and local filings.
- Experience preparing and filing tax returns across multiple states, including use of local and state tax portals.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and the accounting cycle.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including working with large data sets and complex calculations.
- Experience utilizing ERP software, with familiarity in Acumatica preferred.
- Ability to research and interpret tax rates, rules, exemptions, and regulations for various jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated ability to support internal and external tax audits through documentation and analysis.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in tax reporting and documentation.
- Ability to work independently as the primary in-house tax resource while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with a deadline-oriented mindset.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of The Woodlands, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.50 - $43.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job
classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be
