Reliability Engineer - Naval

Job Title: Reliability Engineer - Naval Job Description This role focuses on providing in-service reliability support for naval systems and fleets of vessels, with a strong emphasis on reliability, availability, and maintainability. You will configure, maintain, and optimize reliability software used on the program, analyze failure data, and drive corrective and preventive actions in collaboration with cross-functional teams. The position combines technical reliability engineering, integrated logistics support, and project coordination within a marine and defence environment. Responsibilities

- Provide comprehensive in-service reliability support for fleets of naval and coast guard vessels, focusing on reliability, availability, and maintainability throughout the asset lifecycle.
- Configure, maintain, and optimize reliability software used on the program to support failure reporting, failure analysis, and corrective action processes.
- Analyze reliability data and failure reports to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for system and process improvements using dedicated reliability software or equivalent tools.
- Collaborate with engineering, service delivery, quality, and other stakeholders to develop, implement, and track corrective and preventive actions based on reliability insights.
- Develop, maintain, and update documentation such as procedures, technical reports, and reliability metrics to support ongoing in-service support activities.
- Support equipment health monitoring and conduct reliability assessments to ensure assets meet performance and availability requirements over their service life.
- Train and support end users in the effective use of reliability software, promoting best practices in failure reporting, analysis, and maintenance planning.
- Participate in reliability reviews, technical meetings, and continuous improvement programs to enhance system performance and supportability.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, internal policies, and customer requirements related to reliability engineering and in-service support.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for both hardware and software systems, including issues related to reliability software configuration and data integrity.
- Contribute to the development and execution of maintenance programs, including corrective and preventive maintenance strategies aligned with integrated logistics support principles.
- Apply project management skills to plan, coordinate, and track reliability engineering tasks, ensuring deliverables meet schedule, quality, and contractual requirements.

Essential Skills

- At least 5 years of experience developing or executing maintenance programs, including corrective and preventive maintenance, failure reporting and analysis, and corrective action programs.
- Proven experience in reliability engineering with a focus on reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) for complex systems.
- Hands-on experience with failure reporting, failure analysis, and corrective action processes within a marine, naval, or defence context.
- Experience in marine, naval, or defence environments, with practical exposure to naval systems and integrated logistics support (ILS).
- Demonstrated experience working on defence contracts or programs, including familiarity with associated requirements and standards.
- Project management experience, including planning, coordination, and oversight of technical tasks and deliverables.
- Bachelor of Engineering degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Naval Architecture, or another relevant engineering discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a marine or closely related environment.
- Ability to configure, maintain, and optimize reliability software tools used for failure reporting and analysis.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret reliability data, identify trends and root causes, and recommend effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and to prepare clear procedures, reports, and metrics.
- Ability to provide technical support and troubleshooting for both hardware and software systems related to reliability and maintenance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with integrated logistics support (ILS) in a naval or defence setting.
- Familiarity with equipment health monitoring techniques and tools used in marine or naval applications.
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to reliability engineering, RAM, and in-service support for naval systems.
- Experience training and supporting end users on reliability software and maintenance processes.
- Participation in continuous improvement initiatives and reliability reviews aimed at enhancing system performance and supportability.
- Ability to work effectively in hybrid and field environments, including dockyards and onboard ships, while coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate documentation, procedures, and reliability metrics over time.

Work Environment This is a hybrid role with a typical schedule of 40 hours per week, combining three days per week in the office with two days of remote work. Core hours run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with flexibility around these times to support work-life balance. The position is predominantly office-based but includes regular work in dockyards and onboard naval ships, where you will support inspections and in-service reliability activities. You may be required to enter machinery spaces and other operational areas, which can involve climbing, bending, and navigating confined or complex spaces typical of naval vessels. The role is open to candidates based in Victoria, BC, Halifax, NS, or Ottawa, ON, and involves close collaboration with engineering and support teams using modern reliability software and related tools in a professional, safety-conscious marine and defence environment.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $62.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
