Midwest Foods is a wholesale food distributor providing top quality food products to numerous food establishments in Chicago, surrounding suburbs, Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana. We import fruits and vegetables from all over the world and distribute these products to local markets. We are looking to complement our growth by hiring a Receiving & Inventory Supervisor.
The Receiving & Inventory Supervisor will oversee our inbound supply chain, cold chain compliance, and overall stock accuracy. In our lean facility (1 dock door, 2 direct reports), this is a hands-on leadership role. You will divide your time between executing physical receiving tasks alongside the intake crew, orchestrating single-dock logistics, and managing inventory accuracy. Your primary mandate is to protect warehouse margins by enforcing food safety compliance, eliminating inventory discrepancies, and aggressively minimizing product spoilage (shrink).

Schedule: Sun-Fri 7AM- 3:30PM
Responsibilities:
- Dock & Inbound Supervision : Manage the single dock door schedule to ensure inbound trailers do not bottleneck. Oversee and execute the unloading, piece-counting, and verification of all incoming produce against vendor purchase orders.
- Produce Quality Defense : Serve as the final authority on product acceptance or rejection. Inspect incoming produce for defects, bruising, maturity levels, and grade standards.
- Cold Chain Compliance : Ensure all incoming perishables undergo immediate pulp temperature checks. Verify carrier temperature logs to maintain absolute compliance with federal and state food safety regulations.
- Inventory Control & FEFO Enforcement : Lead daily and weekly cycle counts. Audit stock locations and coordinate warehouse slotting to strictly enforce First Expired, First Out (FEFO) picking rules for both the intake and picking/shipping teams.
- Team Leadership : Supervise, train, and schedule the 2 cross-functional Receiving/Inventory associates. Establish clear daily workflows and ensure safe operations of material handling equipment. Other duties and tasks, as assigned by Night Warehouse Manager .
Qualifications
Requirements:
- 3 plus years of proven experience in logistics and overseeing receiving operations, preferably in food/produce industry.
- Availability to work weekends and holidays
- Experience operating forklift or EPJ (preferred)
- Strong order fulfillment and shipping experience; proficiency with NetSuite WMS or similar warehouse management systems preferred
- Previous experience overseeing employees across multiple departments
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in cold warehouse environments (35 degrees).
