Computer Engineer (RAS)

About the role: PMAT is seeking a highly experienced Computer Engineer to provide senior-level technical leadership for the design, acquisition, integration, and deployment of hardware and computing solutions supporting global robotics and autonomous systems operations. This role will lead efforts to develop and field enterprise and edge computing infrastructure, including innovative solutions that are not currently available within existing fielded environments. The candidate will work closely with integration teams, emerging technology platforms, engineering organizations, and operational stakeholders to develop mission-ready solutions that address any constraints through small-form-factor computing, mobile servers, workstations, and related hardware technologies. The role requires strong computer engineering expertise, technical leadership, hardware lifecycle management, and the ability to deliver reliable computing solutions across Department of War locations worldwide.

Responsibilities:

- Lead the design, evaluation, acquisition, integration, and deployment of computing hardware and supporting software solutions for enterprise, edge, robotics, and autonomous systems environments.

- Lead and coordinate teams of engineers responsible for acquiring, building, configuring, integrating, testing, installing, and sustaining hardware and software solutions at Department of War locations worldwide.

- Develop innovative computing solutions for emerging operational requirements by evaluating small-form-factor computers, mobile servers, workstations, edge computing platforms, and other technologies to address physical and deployment constraints.

- Support the design and redesign of IT and hardware architectures, including new system implementations, field changes, technology refreshes, upgrades, hardware replacements, and integration with existing infrastructure.

- Manage engineering schedules, technical tasks, dependencies, hardware acquisition activities, and integration milestones to ensure systems are delivered in accordance with customer and operational requirements.

- Manage robotics and autonomous systems equipment inventories by maintaining hardware accountability, configuration information, lifecycle status, deployment information, and planning inputs for replacement or modernization.

- Develop and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including hardware designs, system configurations, bills of material, installation procedures, maintenance procedures, technical specifications, and configuration records.

- Provide senior-level technical guidance to engineers, integration teams, program stakeholders, and operational personnel while troubleshooting complex hardware, software, infrastructure, and system integration challenges.

- Plan and execute system installations, upgrades, technology refreshes, and new capability implementations while ensuring solutions meet applicable technical, cybersecurity, interoperability, and industry requirements.

Required Skills and Experience:

- Extensive experience in computer engineering, hardware engineering, systems integration, infrastructure engineering, or related technical disciplines supporting complex computing environments.

- Experience designing, acquiring, building, integrating, testing, installing, and sustaining computer hardware and supporting software solutions.

- Experience leading engineers or multidisciplinary technical teams responsible for hardware acquisition, system integration, installation, deployment, or sustainment activities.

- Strong understanding of computing hardware architectures, servers, workstations, storage, networking components, peripherals, and supporting infrastructure.

- Experience evaluating technical requirements and developing hardware solutions based on performance, interoperability, environmental, deployment, and operational constraints.

- Experience supporting system design and redesign activities, hardware upgrades, technology refreshes, field changes, configuration management, and lifecycle planning.

- Experience managing engineering schedules, technical tasks, dependencies, equipment requirements, and customer delivery milestones.

- Experience developing and maintaining detailed technical documentation for hardware designs, configurations, installation, maintenance, and sustainment activities.

- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate on complex technical challenges across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide technical direction and communicate engineering recommendations, risks, tradeoffs, and status to technical, program, and operational stakeholders.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

- Experience supporting Navy, Department of War, government, or other mission-critical operational environments.

- Operational experience supporting active-duty military customers and fielded capabilities at government or military installations.

- Experience supporting robotics and/or autonomous systems, unmanned platforms, autonomous systems, or infrastructure enabling globally distributed robotic operations.

- Experience designing computing solutions around physical constraints, including small-form-factor computers, mobile servers, ruggedized workstations, edge computing systems, and deployable infrastructure.

- Experience integrating computing hardware with emerging technology platforms, sensors, networks, cloud infrastructure, tactical systems, or autonomous platforms.

- Experience with enterprise and edge server technologies, embedded computing, GPUs, high-performance computing hardware, virtualization, containerized workloads, or other mission-focused compute architectures.

- Experience performing hardware trade studies, component evaluations, technical assessments, compatibility analysis, or make/buy recommendations for emerging computing requirements.

- Experience managing technical equipment inventories, hardware configurations, asset lifecycle information, technology refresh planning, and End-of-Life considerations.

- Familiarity with cybersecurity, system hardening, secure configuration, vulnerability remediation, and accreditation considerations associated with deploying computing hardware in government environments.

- Experience supporting worldwide system installations, fielding activities, operational testing, technology demonstrations, or geographically distributed technical deployments.
