Assistant Safety Manager – Transportation

Position Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM
Salary: $50,000 starting salary + incentive opportunities
Estimated Annual Compensation: $56,000–$76,000

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Safety Manager to join our transportation safety team. This position plays an important role in promoting safe driving practices, supporting regulatory compliance, and helping drivers maintain strong safety performance.

The Assistant Safety Manager will monitor driver safety performance, provide coaching and training, and work closely with drivers and management to ensure compliance with FMCSA regulations and company safety policies.

Key Responsibilities:

- Monitor and evaluate drivers’ overall safety performance using a variety of reports, systems, and safety metrics.
- Review driver safety records and identify areas requiring additional coaching, training, or corrective action.
- Provide ongoing safety training and counseling to drivers based on individual performance and identified needs.
- Assign and monitor completion of online training courses and other educational programs.
- Assist drivers with understanding and maintaining compliance with FMCSA regulations and company policies.
- Communicate safety expectations clearly and professionally with drivers and management.
- Document training, counseling, and other safety-related activities accurately.
- Assist with follow-up on safety concerns and ensure appropriate corrective actions are completed.
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to driver safety and training.
- Work collaboratively with the Safety and Operations teams to promote a strong safety culture.
- Perform additional safety-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills:

- Previous experience in transportation, fleet safety, driver safety, or a related field is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with professional drivers and management.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to analyze reports and identify safety trends or areas of concern.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a team environment.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced transportation environment.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive safety information professionally.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations is preferred.
