Job Summary:

We are seeking highly motivated emerging talent to participate in a 10-week immersive internship program from June 7, 2027, to August 13, 2027. This program offers university students hands-on experience through project-based work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Throughout the program, Interns will have exposure to mentorship, networking, and professional development opportunities.

The Systems Engineer intern will support Voyager Technologies at one of the following locations:

- San Diego, CA

- Long Beach, CA

- Pittsburgh, PA

The Systems Engineering Intern will support the Systems Engineering team with a variety of activities related to requirements, system architecture, integration, testing, analysis, and technical documentation. This internship provides an opportunity to apply engineering principles to real-world projects while gaining exposure to how complex systems are defined, developed, integrated, and verified.

The intern may contribute to projects across different engineering disciplines and product areas based on current business and engineering priorities. The specific project assignment will provide opportunities to work collaboratively with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

- Assist with defining, reviewing, decomposing, and tracking system-level requirements.

- Support the development and documentation of system architectures, interfaces, and technical specifications.

- Assist with identifying and evaluating technical risks, dependencies, and potential system-level issues.

- Collaborate with engineering teams and cross-functional partners to support system development and integration activities.

- Support the definition of verification and validation methods for system requirements.

- Assist with developing, reviewing, and executing test plans, procedures, and other verification activities.

- Participate in system integration, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving activities.

- Support the collection, analysis, and documentation of engineering data and test results.

- Assist with maintaining technical documentation and engineering artifacts throughout the development process.

- Participate in engineering reviews, team meetings, technical discussions, training sessions, and other learning opportunities.

- Collaborate with other internal teams, such as project management, operations, and business development, as needed.

- Contribute ideas for process improvement, engineering efficiency, and operational effectiveness.

- Complete assigned projects and deliverables accurately and within established timelines.

Requirements

- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited university, preferably pursuing a degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.

- Broad understanding of fundamental engineering principles and systems engineering concepts.

- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.

- Ability to learn and apply new engineering tools, processes, and methodologies.

- Familiarity with engineering software, modeling tools, requirements management systems, programming languages, or other technical tools is preferred.

- Ability to travel for in-person orientation and program kickoff, as well as for the final presentation at program completion.

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous internship, coursework, academic project, laboratory experience, or other relevant engineering experience.

- Experience with requirements development, systems engineering, system integration, testing, or technical documentation.

- Familiarity with engineering design or analysis software, such as CAD, electrical design, modeling/simulation, or requirements management tools.

- Experience with programming or data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar languages.

- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment, engineering test equipment, prototyping, or experimental testing.

- Exposure to multidisciplinary engineering projects or cross-functional development environments.

Hourly Pay Range: $23.50-$30.00 per hour

*Hourly rate determined by academic year, college major, line of business, geography
