Description
Highly skilled employees in Overhead Crane technician craft who applies a broad level of mechanical/electrical/maintenance knowledge to maximize and, where possible, improve the efficiency of the overall production process. Employees may mentor or train other technicians. Employee will work under minimal supervision where the primary objective is safe production.
- Conduct Monthly/Annual safety inspections and perform mechanical and electrical maintenance on remote and cab operated overhead bridge cranes
- Perform routine and non-routine maintenance activities on both mechanical and electrical components of the Overhead Cranes
- Repair, install, fabricate, rebuild, troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance of overhead cranes
- Complete Work Orders, order parts, and other maintenance documentation
- Qualified to operate overhead, as well as mobile cranes and knowledgeable of safe rigging practices
- Follows and understands MSHA rules and regulations, Environmental rules and regulations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and work area instructions, participates in safety and environmental activities, uses plant and equipment correctly at all times
- Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned according to business need
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Four (4) years of combined mechanical and electrical experience to include:
two (2) years experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts (including welder, boilermaker, machinist or facility maintenance/construction), or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance, AND
- two (2) years’ experience or a combination of education and experience in industrial electrical and/or instrumentation repair and maintenance, or High school diploma or GED, and completion of an approved certified electronics, electrical and/or instrumentation program
- Proficiency in welding/cutting (MIG, TIG, ARC, Oxy-acetylene)
- Competent in mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, welding, bearings, basic metallurgy (stress cracking, metal compatibility), plumbing, alignment, machine shop, blue prints, schematics, and mobile equipment
- Qualified to operate overhead, as well as mobile cranes and knowledgeable of safe rigging practices
- Follows and understands MSHA rules and regulations, Environmental rules and regulations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and work area instructions, participates in safety and environmental activities, uses plant and equipment correctly at all times
- Working knowledge of fabrication, and part lists and repair
- Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair
- Working knowledge of Static Stepless Motor Control, magnetic motor control (AC/DC), wound rotor motors, electrical schematics, rectors, eddy current brakes, three phase and single phase circuits, and troubleshooting electrical equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous experience operating larger than twenty (20) ton mobile crane
- Certified in welding (MIG, TIG, Stick, Arc)
- Experience regarding equipment modifications, including VFD retrofits, radio remote installs, motor and gear replacements, hydraulic to electrical braking retrofits, and bar to festoon conversions
- Working knowledge of overhead crane electrical controls
- Current Certified Crane Inspector
- Motor repair knowledge
- Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) knowledge

- Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
- Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
- Work is performed in a manufacturing plant which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electric shock, toxic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles
- While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear, see and work in confined spaces
- Occasionally may be asked required to life moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday
- Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety foot wear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment as required
- Will be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation

What We Offer You
The estimated pay range for this role is currently $30.00 - $47.00/hour . This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors.
