The Advanced Programs and Exploitation (APEX) team within Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a software engineer with experience working at the intersection of software, embedded processing, and FPGA-based systems to support space-based mission processing of OPIR data.
In this position, you will develop and integrate software associated with FPGA-based and heterogeneous processing architectures. You will work closely with FPGA, hardware, and software engineers to implement and integrate mission processing functionality across processors and programmable logic.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
* Developing C++ and Python software for embedded processing systems
* Integrating software with FPGA-based processing architectures
* Supporting development and integration of applications using AMD/Xilinx Vitis and Vivado toolchains
* Working with High-Level Synthesis (HLS) and software-to-hardware interfaces
* Developing and debugging software that interacts with programmable logic and embedded processors
* Analyzing system performance and optimizing data movement between processors, memory, and FPGA fabric
* Supporting hardware/software integration and troubleshooting
* Developing interfaces between mission applications and FPGA-based processing functions
* Participating in system architecture, design, code reviews, integration, and test
* Working with hardware engineers to diagnose issues spanning software, FPGA, and hardware boundaries
* Documenting software, interfaces, designs, and test results
This position is located in our offices in beautiful Boulder, Colorado.
Basic Qualifications
* Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering,
or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a related technical field
* Development experience in C++ or another compiled programming language
* Experience developing software for embedded or hardware-constrained systems
* Ability to obtain a Secret government clearance
Desired Skills
* Hands‑on experience with AMD/Xilinx toolchains (Vitis, Vivado, Vitis HLS) and high‑level synthesis
* Strong understanding of FPGA architecture, programmable logic, and AXI‑based hardware/software interfaces
* Proven expertise in hardware/software co‑design for FPGA acceleration and data‑processing pipelines
* Embedded systems background: Linux on embedded processors, low‑level C/C++ programming, and device‑driver development
* Proficiency in digital signal and image processing for mission‑critical aerospace/defense payloads
* Experience with heterogeneous computing architectures and embedded processors
* Active security clearance.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $135700.00 - $251900.00

Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
