About this role
The Payroll Manager leads daily payroll operations for the UCLA Faculty Practice Group (FPG), ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing and compliance with university policies and regulatory requirements. This role manages payroll systems and transactions, oversees payroll staff, supports internal controls and process improvements, and partners with several departments to resolve payroll issues and support reporting needs. Key Responsibilities
- Manage payroll processing activities for FPG payroll systems, including UCPath.
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll disbursements, including leave accruals, bonuses, and merit increases.
- Verify payroll transactions are accurate, complete, and properly recorded in the general ledger.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and university payroll regulations and reporting requirements.
- Review payroll processes and implement improvements to support accuracy, efficiency, compliance, and audit readiness.
- Develop and maintain internal controls, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Supervise four Payroll Analyst staff, including work assignments, coaching, training, hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations.
- Partner with Human Resources, Accounting, managers, departments, and central payroll offices to communicate updates and resolve payroll issues.
- Participate in payroll-related projects and support payroll system and process changes.
Salary Range: $80,700 - $168,500/Annually
All items below are required :
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5+ years of payroll experience, including supervisory or team leadership responsibilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of payroll systems such as UCPath and payroll reporting tools
- Understanding of payroll regulations, tax reporting, and compliance requirements
- Experience with payroll reconciliations and general ledger processes
- Ability to interpret policies and apply payroll procedures within a complex organization
- Strong communication skills to explain payroll information to various audiences
- Proven ability to lead, develop, and support professional staff
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and reporting tools
- Ability to analyze payroll data, identify discrepancies, and recommend solutions
- Skilled in managing multiple priorities and meeting payroll deadlines
Preferred:
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) – American Payroll Association
- Experience working in a healthcare or large institutional environment
- Familiarity with ServiceNow or ticketing systems for issue tracking
