Job Title: Hazardous Materials Transportation Consultant Job Description
We are seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Hazardous Materials Transportation Consultant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing expert advice and clear communication regarding the transportation and shipment of hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
Responsibilities
- Respond to customer questions concerning the transportation and shipment of hazardous materials.
- Research, interpret, and apply the Hazardous Materials Regulations to specific customer situations and operational questions.
- Provide clear, concise, and accurate written responses through email.
- Meet an established service-level expectation of responding to customer inquiries within 24 hours, with most questions requiring a response within several hours.
- Explain complicated regulatory concepts in plain, practical, and conversational language.
- Determine proper shipping names, hazard classes, UN/NA identification numbers, packing groups, and applicable regulatory exceptions.
- Provide supporting agency-issued interpretations when relevant to the customers situation.
- Review training documents, short articles, and other compliance content for regulatory accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
- Identify potential compliance gaps, inaccuracies, or areas requiring clarification within educational and customer-facing materials.
- Serve as a hazardous materials transportation subject matter resource for customers, business partners, and internal departments.
- Analyze the facts of each situation and explain how the requirements apply to the customers specific circumstances.
- Collaborate virtually with members of the regulatory transportation and compliance team.
- Maintain timely and professional communication while independently managing assigned questions and content reviews.
Essential Skills
- At least five years of professional experience involving the shipping or transportation of hazardous materials.
- Working knowledge of the Hazardous Materials Regulations under 49 CFR Parts 171180.
- Demonstrated knowledge of hazardous material classification, packaging requirements, marking and labeling, placarding, shipping papers, hazardous materials training requirements, registration requirements, proper shipping names, hazard classes and divisions, UN/NA identification numbers, packing groups, and regulatory exceptions.
- Proven ability to locate, analyze, interpret, and apply regulatory requirements to real-world operational scenarios.
- Regulatory research and analytical skills.
- Excellent professional writing skills, particularly when responding to technical or compliance-related questions through email.
- Ability to translate technical regulatory language into practical guidance that customers can easily understand.
- Ability to provide accurate, well-supported answers within established service-level expectations.
- Attention to detail and commitment to regulatory accuracy.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment with limited supervision.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Compliance management and logistics experience.
- Familiarity with data entry related to regulatory compliance.
- Experience with carrier or shipment processes.
Work Environment
This is a fully remote position within the United States. The expected schedule is approximately three days per week, averaging five hours per day. The total weekly hours are approximately 15, with flexibility to support additional hours depending on workload and availability. Working days and hours may be arranged around the consultants availability and customer service needs.

This is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $39.00 - $48.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be
