About the Opportunity

This is for four (4) open positions with the Jersey Central Power & Light Company (JCP&L), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

The Planning & Protection Engineer position is accountable for the reliability and assessment of New Jersey's distribution systems. The engineer performs analysis and recommends solutions to maintain a reliable electrical infrastructure that meets present and future electrical needs.

The reporting location for this onsite position is either the Morristown General Office in Morristown, NJ or the Holmdel Office in Holmdel, NJ.

Responsibilities include:

- Working safely in a variety of electric utility settings.
- Performing Power Circuit analysis studies, querying reliability data, and preparing detailed reports.
- Working with Regulatory Reporting and Compliance groups to prepare reports and responses to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJ BPU).
- Preparing reports and studies supporting reliability improvement initiatives.
- Assisting in preparation of budget estimates and schedules for reliability improvement projects.
- Assisting in project development and presentation of the capital budget.
- Providing technical support for power quality studies as needed.
- Managing and supporting reliability programs.
- Investigating customer inquiries regarding service quality and reliability, which include site inspections.
- Investigating reliability complaints filed with the BPU and recommending corrective measures.
- Identifying and implementing projects and programs to improve data quality and reliability.
- Collaborating with teams in engineering and operations to successfully create and implement reliability projects.
- Assisting with training programs related to data quality, outage reporting, and reliability analysis.
- Preparing ad hoc reports as requested.
- Supporting the JCP&L storm process as needed.
- May be assigned special projects as business needs require.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s of Science degree in Engineering / Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are:
o a Professional Engineer’s (PE) License
o a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Engineering Technology or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.
- Minimum 0 - 5 engineering work experience is required.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam considered a plus.
- Experience and knowledge of electrical systems, operations, and maintenance practices, switching and tagging, computer systems, work management and electrical controls are desired. Relay control work experience is a plus.
- Current knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and the National Electric Code (NEC).
- Demonstrated experience in effectively working and communicating across functional boundaries and providing total customer satisfaction.
- Possess strong knowledge, maturity, and decision-making skills regarding electrical problems and analyzing complex information.
- Able to analyze data, write technical reports, develop work packages to implement recommendations and the ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Self-motivated and a self-starter, customer focused, results oriented and a team player.
- Possess and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license.
- Willing to travel throughout the service territory (40%), and willing to work extra and/or irregular hours.

FirstEnergy takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. In addition, your actual base salary will depend on various factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience.

The estimated pay range for this role is $95,500 - $151,000.
