About this role
Company Overview
Alloyed is a young venture-funded company of about 300 world-class metallurgists, engineers, and software developers working across the UK, Japan and the US to build the future of advanced metal components and systems. To do this, Alloyed uses proprietary software packages which combine advanced machine learning and physical modelling to invent better alloys, devise better ways to process them, and design better 3D-printed components and assemblies.
Alloyed is composed of a range of divisions, enabling metal technology from composition to systems:
- Core Technology: Alloyed's internal research and technology hub, focused on creating the new alloys, manufacturing methods, digital tools and intellectual property that will power the company's future products and capabilities.
- Innovation Services: Work directly with customers to develop, optimise and qualify materials and manufacturing processes for demanding aerospace, defence, energy and industrial applications.
- Component Engineering: Design, manufacture and validate production-ready components, turning material and process innovations into high-performance hardware for customer applications.
- Argive: Develop and manufacture complete microturbine engine systems under ambitious timelines and customer expectations, enabled by Alloyed’s software stack, proprietary Alloys and AM processing capabilities.
---
Whether you're a recent graduate or a current university student, we offer exciting opportunities to gain real-world engineering experience at Alloyed.
- Graduate Engineers : Full-time positions for graduates ready to launch their careers on or before September 2027.
- Summer Internships : 8-week placements for students looking to apply their learning in an industry environment in June/July 2027.

Role Overview
Mechanical design sits at the heart of turning advanced materials and manufacturing technologies into high-performance components and systems.
Alloyed mechanical design engineers develop advanced design tools, apply design for additive manufacturing methods, solve qualification challenges, and help bring entirely new products from concept into production.
We’re looking for curious, ambitious engineers who enjoy tackling difficult technical problems and want to push the limits of what additive manufacturing can achieve.
---
What you'll work on:
Working in the mechncial engineering team, you’ll work across Alloyed’s divisions, taking ownership of real engineering challenges from day one. You’ll collaborate with customers and with materials, manufacturing and software engineers to optimise existing components for additive manufacturing or develop entirely new products from initial concept through to final design.

- Creating and iterating on 3D CAD models of components and assemblies, ensuring alignment with functional and manufacturing requirements.
- Developing and releasing detailed technical drawings and documentation for manufacturing, inspection, and assembly
- Supporting design reviews, maintaining high standards of clarity and accuracy
- Maintaining organized version control and file management within PLM/CAD environments
- Assisting in rapid prototyping and design-for-manufacture evaluations during early development phases
---
Essential skills
- Completed or working towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design Engineering or equivalent.
- Proficient in CAD tools (e.g. SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion or similar)
- Understanding of the principles of technical drawings and/or GD&T
- Excellent problem-solving ability and capability to convert complex data into actions with practical solutions
- Adaptable, organised, and able to prioritise multiple workstreams
- Willingness to get hands on with manufacturing processes
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams
Desired skills
- Experience with metal additive manufacturing design constraints and approaches
- Strong understanding of design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA) principles
- Knowledge or experience of the aerospace, automotive and electronic industries
- Knowledge of PLM systems and collaborative design workflows.
- Experience in other CAD tools (Rhino-Grasshopper, Siemens NX etc)
- Familiarity with design validation techniques (e.g., prototyping, tolerance stack-ups, basic FEA)
---
During your application, you'll be asked whether you'd like to be considered for a Graduate Engineer position or Summer Internship. You cannot apply for both.
