Senior Agri-Food Communications Executive
Full time, Maternity Cover Contract (12 Months)
Dublin, Ireland
Reports to: Head of Communications
Grade: 5
Salary: The salary scale for this role is €53,566 - €73,492.
New entrants to the Public Sector commence on the first point of the Scale

Purpose: The purpose of this role is to develop and deliver the communications strategy for Bord Bia’s engagement with Irish farmers and raise awareness of the invaluable contribution this relationship makes to increasing the value of Irish food and drink exports. The Senior Agri-Food Communications Executive will report to the Head of Communications.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and deliver Bord Bia’s ongoing farmer communications strategy
- Drive Bord Bia’s reputation and awareness with farmer and other key agri-food stakeholders as a key member of Bord Bia’s Farmer Engagement team
- Manage the Bord Bia press office farmer communications budget
Main Duties
Main responsibilities:
- Manage the development and implementation of Bord Bia’s farmer communications strategy.
- Working with internal sector specialists, project managers and Bord Bia’s overseas offices, develop effective communications initiatives, impactful content and creative campaigns for Irish farmers throughout the year.
- Work with agri-media partners to develop and deliver editorial and marketing campaigns that increase awareness and understanding of Bord Bia’s role and its relationship with Irish farmers.
- Manage communications for Bord Bia’s principal agri-food events and stakeholder engagements, including the National Ploughing Championships, Tullamore Show, Meat Marketing Seminar and international trade visits.
- Manage Bord Bia’s farmer-facing social media channels, including the development and delivery of engaging content, day-to-day channel management, community engagement and performance reporting.
- Act as Bord Bia’s primary press office contact for agri-media, managing queries and identifying opportunities for proactive engagement.
- Work alongside the Head of Communications to coordinate agri-media visits to overseas markets and attendance at Bord Bia trade events.
- Manage the internal and external resources required to deliver the farmer communications strategy, including associated work plans, agency relationships and budgets.
- Support the Office of the Chief Executive by preparing agricultural event briefings, speeches and other communications materials, and providing media advice where required.
Key Internal Relationships: Head of Communications; the wider Communications team; Marketing; Digital; Meat, Dairy, Horticulture, Quality Assurance, Origin Green teams; overseas offices; CEO and Senior Leadership Team.
Key External Relationships: Media, with a specific focus on agriculture media outlets; media partners; farming organisations; communications and marketing agencies; content providers including copywriters, photographers, and videographers; Irish government departments and state agencies including the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and where relevant Government Information Service (GIS).
Person Specification
Qualifications:
- Degree level qualification in relevant discipline e.g. Agriculture, Journalism, Economics
- Membership of relevant professional bodies e.g. Agricultural Science Association, National Union of Journalists, Guild of Agricultural Journalists
Experience:
- 3 years’ experience in agri food communications and/or journalism
- Experience of developing communications strategies and campaign planning
- Experience developing and managing relationships with media
- Knowledge and understanding of how media and social media work, and how best to utilise each medium
Required Skills:
- Excellent written skills with experience of writing and editing for media, social media, websites, and video scripts
- Ability to work to create engaging content that will resonate with farming stakeholders
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills with an ability to build and maintain good working relationships at all levels in an organisation
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage tasks and third-party suppliers
- Collaborative; operating to the highest professional standards
- Excellent project management, planning and presentation skills
- Ability to function in an advisory capacity
