Job Title: MEP Supervisor / Senior Mechanical Systems & Building Performance Manager Job Description
This position leads a growing Mechanical Systems and Building Performance practice, combining technical expertise with strategic leadership. You will drive business growth, ensure technical excellence, oversee project delivery, and develop a high-performing team while maintaining strong client relationships. The role focuses on building performance, commissioning, and mechanical systems consulting services across multiple market sectors, with a strong emphasis on MEP systems, HVAC systems, and facility operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and expand the Mechanical Systems and Building Performance practice, setting strategic direction and growth objectives.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of commissioning, engineering consulting, and MEP systems projects across multiple market sectors.
- Ensure technical excellence in mechanical systems, building performance, and HVAC system design, operation, and consulting services.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including scope definition, scheduling, resource allocation, risk management, and quality control.
- Develop, mentor, and support team members to build a strong, collaborative, and high-performing practice.
- Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor for mechanical, electrical, and building performance needs.
- Drive business development activities, including identifying new opportunities, preparing proposals, and supporting presentations to prospective clients.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate construction, commissioning, and facility operations activities.
- Monitor project performance, budgets, and timelines to ensure successful completion and client satisfaction.
- Promote best practices in mechanical systems design, MEP coordination, HVAC equipment selection, and building operations.
- Use computer-based tools and software to support project management, engineering analysis, documentation, and reporting.
- Represent the practice at meetings, site visits, and project reviews, providing clear communication and leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Skills
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in commissioning, engineering consulting, MEP systems, facility operations, or construction.
- Proven project management experience in mechanical systems, building performance, and MEP-related projects.
- Demonstrated success managing commissioning projects from initiation through completion.
- Demonstrated success building and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Experience in business development with a track record of cultivating and growing business.
- Strong understanding of HVAC equipment, HVAC systems, and their operation within building environments.
- Experience working with construction and facility operations teams on mechanical and electrical systems.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to guide and motivate multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
- Strong computer skills to support project management, engineering analysis, documentation, and reporting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across teams and with clients.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience leading or contributing to a Mechanical Systems and Building Performance or similar practice area.
- Background in mechanical systems design and building performance analysis.
- Familiarity with a range of building performance, commissioning, and mechanical systems consulting services across multiple market sectors.
- Ability to balance technical responsibilities with operational management and business development.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities.
- Proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement in processes and outcomes.
Work Environment
This is an onsite role with regular presence required at the primary office or project location, complemented by some travel to project sites as needed. You will work closely with construction teams, facility operations personnel, and engineering professionals in active building and infrastructure environments. The role involves visiting mechanical rooms, equipment spaces, and construction sites where MEP and HVAC systems are installed and commissioned. Standard business hours typically apply, with flexibility based on project needs and site visits. The environment emphasizes collaboration, professional growth, and the opportunity to lead a special projects group within one of the largest contractors in the Southern Virginia region. Dress expectations may vary between office-appropriate attire and practical, safety-compliant clothing when visiting job sites.

This is a Permanent position based out of Richmond, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $125000.00 - $150000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
