The Opportunity
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a Supervisor of Postal Services to oversee the daily operations of the University’s Mail Center and ensure reliable, efficient mail and shipping services for campus departments, students, and local affiliates. This role provides hands-on leadership, staff and student supervision, customer service, and operational support while ensuring compliance with USPS regulations and University policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily incoming and outgoing mail, package, and shipping operations for the University.
- Supervise, train, schedule, coach, and support Mail Center staff and student assistants.
- Coordinate USPS, UPS, FedEx, and other shipping services, including package processing and carrier pickups.
- Oversee USPS Contract Postal Unit (CPU) customer service, including postage and supply sales and payment processing.
- Coordinate the pickup, receiving, sorting, staging, delivery, forwarding, and return of mail and packages.
- Oversee student mailboxes, maintain related records, and coordinate mail forwarding services.
- Provide campus courier coverage and coordinate delivery schedules across campus.
- Monitor postage funds, shipping transactions, invoices, cross-charges, and related departmental records.
- Track incoming and outgoing mail and package volumes for reporting and statistical purposes.
- Ensure compliance with USPS requirements, University policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Monitor the safe operation, maintenance, and proper use of Mail Center equipment and vehicles.
- Assist with departmental budgeting, strategic planning, purchasing, and office supply needs.
- Provide customer assistance and resolve mail, package, and delivery-related questions or issues.
- Support the overall day-to-day operations of the Mail Center and serve as a backup liaison to the USPS.

Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Preferred areas of concentration include Shipping and Receiving, Customer Service, or Retail .
Required Experience
- 3–5 years of related experience in shipping, receiving, postal services, mail/package processing, customer service, or a related field.
- Experience overseeing personnel and managing departmental funds.
- Experience with all phases of shipping operations.
Required License
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Ability to effectively manage, instruct, train, and oversee staff and student employees.
- Knowledge of U.S. Postal Service and shipping services, requirements, and safety regulations related to mail and package preparation and processing.
- Knowledge of mail and package processing equipment, handling, distribution, and delivery techniques.
- Ability to provide effective customer service and resolve shipping, mail, and delivery-related issues.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Ability to follow and enforce policies, procedures, and applicable postal and shipping regulations.
