Position Summary
The Medical Assistant is responsible for supporting physicians and nursing staff by preparing patients for clinical visits, obtaining vital signs, performing venipuncture, documenting patient information, and ensuring a positive patient experience throughout their cancer care journey. This role plays a critical part in delivering compassionate, high-quality oncology care.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and prepare patients for clinic visits.
- Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, and other clinical information.
- Perform venipuncture and collect laboratory specimens as ordered.
- Properly label and process laboratory specimens.
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, ensuring adequate supplies and cleanliness.
- Document patient information accurately within the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Support quality initiatives, including CMS Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) documentation.
- Assist with scheduling, appointment verification, patient check-in, and other administrative support functions.
- Provide phone coverage and support clinic operations as needed.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to patients, families, and colleagues.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Current Medical Assistant certification
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment
Preferred
- Oncology or specialty clinic experience
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
- Phlebotomy and venipuncture experience
