Summary

- The Certified School Teacher is responsible in planning, organizing, and implementing a developmental age appropriate instructional program that guides and encourages academic, social-emotional growth and development of medically complex or fragile children/student.

Responsibilities

- Develops weekly lesson plans and implements a developmental age-appropriate curriculum that meets the needs of the individual child and/or group in a safe, clean classroom environment that nurtures, stimulates, encourages, and promotes each child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
- Assesses developmental progress, records results, and prepares reports quarterly to reflect students progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to parents/legal guardians and administration.
- Prepares and organizes creative indoor/outdoor activities, projects, field trips, and/or events that the child can engage and participate.
- Participates fully and consistently as a team member in caring for the children and in the overall operation of the program and center; maintains open communication and works collaboratively with interdisciplinary staff, parents/legal guardians, and/other community resources/agencies. Maintains up to date curriculum plans, individual child development and progress, attendance, and other records as needed.
- Assists in the discharge plans or transition to public schools or other least restrictive environments in conjunction with parents and medical staff.
- Provides proper hygiene care routines and attends to the basic needs of the child and/or group.
- Provides functional training and guidance to staff, interns, substitutes, and volunteers assigned to the classroom.
- Participates in department and parent meetings, IEP conferences, in-services/trainings, and fire safety drills.
- Maintains documentation of required licensure, certifications, continuing education, safety training, HIPAA and other related requirements. Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Participates in department and parent meetings, IEP conferences, and in-service classes.
- Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

- Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience.
- Special education experience highly preferred
- Pre-k to Elementary experience highly preferred.

Education

High school diploma is required.

Credentials

- Prekindergarten/Primary Education Certification required.
- Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Certification required.
- American Heart Association and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers may be required at the unit level upon hire  with at least 6 months validity  and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

Unit Specific Credential

AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity

Working Conditions

Physical Requirements  - Job function is sedentary in nature and requires sitting for extended periods of time. Function may require frequent standing or walking. Must be able to lift or carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Jobs in this group are required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: extended use of computers, preparing and analyzing data and analytics, and other components of a typical office environment. Environmental Conditions  - Jobs in this group are required to function in a fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations. Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public. Function is subject to inside environmental conditions, with occasional outdoor exposures. Possible exposure to various environments such as: communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment. May wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves or a mask when exposed to hospital environment outside of office.
