Director, Roofing & Building Envelope Design

SUMMARY
Mantis Innovation is seeking a strategic and technically proficient Director of Roofing & Building Envelope Design to lead and grow our national Roofing & Building Envelope consulting practice. This role is responsible for overseeing technical excellence, project delivery, people leadership, quality assurance, talent development, and market growth across our Commercial & Industrial (C&I), MUSH (Municipal, University, School, and Healthcare), Food & Beverage, Banking, and Corporate Real Estate client sectors.
The Director will provide leadership and direction for a multidisciplinary team of roofing consultants, building envelope specialists, architects, designers, specification writers, and CAD professionals. The successful candidate will serve as the operational leader of the practice, ensuring consistent execution, profitability, quality standards, and client satisfaction while advancing Mantis' position as a trusted advisor in roof asset management, building envelope consulting, design services, and capital project planning.
This position is intended for an experienced roofing and building envelope professional and does not require an architectural license.

- Grow Roofing & Building Envelope consulting revenue in line with annual practice targets.

- Maintain strong client retention and satisfaction across strategic accounts.

- Reduce quality-related issues through consistent QA/QC standards and technical review.

Practice Leadership

- Lead and manage the Roofing & Building Envelope Design practice across all regions.

- Establish and execute the strategic vision, goals, processes, and performance standards for the group.

- Create scalable delivery models and standard operating procedures to support growth.

- Develop staffing plans and organizational structures to support current and future workload demands.

- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.

- Build a high-performing team through coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and

Technical Leadership

- Serve as the senior technical authority for roofing and building envelope design projects.

- Oversee preparation and review of roof replacement designs, repair specifications, bid documents, construction details, and building envelope assessments.

- Ensure consistency and quality across all design deliverables.

- Guide technical approaches for complex roofing, waterproofing, façade, and enclosure projects.

- Promote adoption of industry best practices, emerging technologies, and innovative solutions.

- Maintain awareness of evolving roofing systems, building enclosure technologies, codes, and industry standards.

Project Delivery & Quality Assurance

- Oversee a portfolio of design and consulting projects from assessment through closeout.

- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements.

- Implement and maintain robust QA/QC processes across all deliverables.

- Participate in project reviews, risk management discussions, and constructability evaluations.

- Monitor resource utilization and project performance metrics.

Client Leadership

- Serve as a trusted advisor to key clients and strategic accounts.

- Participate in executive-level client meetings, presentations, and planning discussions.

- Support roof asset management programs and capital planning initiatives.

- Develop long-term client relationships that drive recurring revenue and expanded service offerings.

- Partner with Operations and Sales teams to ensure successful project execution and client satisfaction.

Business Development & Growth

- Support business development efforts through proposal development, interviews, scope development, and technical presentations.

- Identify opportunities to expand roofing and building envelope services into existing accounts.

- Collaborate with Market Leaders to grow service offerings within C&I, MUSH, Food & Beverage, Banking, and Corporate real estate sectors.

- Support strategic initiatives, acquisitions, and integration efforts related to consulting and design services.

- Assist in developing annual growth, revenue, and margin objectives for the practice.

Team Development

- Recruit, develop, and retain top consulting and design talent.

- Conduct performance management, career development, and succession planning activities.

- Support professional certifications and industry involvement.

- Build a team environment focused on collaboration, accountability, and customer service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- 15+ years of progressive experience in commercial roofing, roof consulting, building envelope consulting, design, architecture, engineering, or related disciplines.

- 7+ years of leadership experience managing technical consulting, design, engineering, or professional services teams.

- Demonstrated experience leading multi-location teams and complex project portfolios.

- Strong expertise in:
- Commercial roofing systems

- Building envelope and façade systems

- Waterproofing systems

- Building assessments

- Construction administration

- Design specifications

- Capital planning and asset management

- Experience serving large portfolio clients across multiple facilities and geographic locations.

- Proven ability to manage financial performance, resource planning, and operational execution.

- Excellent communication, presentation, and client relationship management skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Registered Roof Consultant (RRC)

- Registered Roof Observer (RRO)

- Registered Exterior Wall Consultant (REWC)

- Registered Exterior Wall Observer (REWO)

- Professional Engineer (PE)

- Project Management Professional (PMP)

- IIBEC certifications

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Building Science, or related field

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Work environment: Office, remote, client-site, and field environments, including commercial facilities and active construction settings.

- Physical requirements: Regular computer work, meetings, travel, site walks, climbing stairs or ladders where permitted, and occasional exposure to outdoor conditions.

- Schedule expectations: Full-time role with travel and schedule flexibility based on client needs, project deadlines, and leadership responsibilities.
