Introduction

As a Property Negotiator, you will play a vital role in securing high-quality accommodation for households in housing need across the borough. You will have experience working in a target-driven environment and be confident in building and maintaining strong relationships with landlords, letting agents, developers, and accommodation providers to increase the supply of housing available to the Council.

You will be an excellent communicator and skilled negotiator, with the ability to influence, persuade, and secure the best possible terms while delivering value for money. Performance-driven and customer-focused, you will be committed to helping the Council meet its housing objectives, reduce reliance on costly temporary accommodation, and achieve savings targets.

What’s the role?

You will be responsible for procuring suitable properties in the private rented sector, negotiating lease and rental agreements, managing a portfolio of accommodation providers, and supporting the Council to meet its statutory housing duties. Experience in a lettings, property, housing procurement, or business development environment is essential, with previous local authority or housing sector experience highly desirable. Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills are key to success in this role.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a high-performing and motivated individual who is committed to delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced, target-driven environment. You will be confident in building positive relationships with landlords, agents, and accommodation providers, using your strong communication and negotiation skills to secure high-quality accommodation for households in housing need.

Location

The job is primarily based in Laurence House, Catford, London, SE6 4RU, but we operate a hybrid approach where you will be required to work both in the office and from home on a regular basis.

Special conditions

Salary

£47,367 to £49,509 per annum (PO2)

N.B: All appointments will be offered at the minimum spinal column point (SCP) for the grade of the role. The only exception to this will be when matching current salary (up to the maximum of the scale), which is subject to evidential proof.
