Senior Database Administrator

SAIC is seeking a skilled Senior Database Administrator in Middletown, RI to administer, maintain, secure and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments supporting business-critical application and data services. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on SQL Server administration experience and practical experience operating databases in cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure. Experience supporting Amazon Web Services (AWS) database services is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

- Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases across development, test, staging, and production environments.
- Monitor database health, availability, performance, capacity, and security; identify and resolve issues before they affect mission or business operations.
- Perform database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, migrations, and version lifecycle management.
- Develop, test, and maintain backup, restoration, high-availability, and disaster-recovery procedures.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, data science, information systems, or information technology and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience.
- Security+, GSEC, Security+, or SSCP; equivalent certification.
- Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Monitor, Azure Backup, Azure Storage, and Azure networking concepts.
- Experience planning or executing SQL Server migrations to Azure.
- Experience with AWS database services.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, or automation tools.
- Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD practices for database deployments.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work individually, and in a team.
- Strong documentation and process-improvement habits.
- Willingness to learn evolving cloud database technologies.
