Position Overview
The Waste Handling Technician supports munitions manufacturing operations by safely processing, treating, packaging, and managing waste streams, including depleted uranium (DU)-contaminated materials and liquid waste systems. This position ensures all waste-handling activities meet strict environmental, radiological, safety, and regulatory requirements while supporting safe and efficient plant operations. Work is performed in controlled environments and requires consistent adherence to procedures, documentation practices, and contamination‑control methods.

Your Day to Day as a Waste Handling Technician
• Perform stabilization and treatment of DU-containing and hazardous waste in accordance with approved procedures.
• Operate liquid waste treatment systems, including plant sewer processes and effluent handling equipment.
• Handle, transfer, package, label, and store waste materials according to regulatory and site requirements.
• Prepare waste for storage, shipment, or disposal with complete and accurate documentation.
• Follow all safety, radiological, environmental, and waste-handling procedures; correctly utilize PPE and contamination‑control practices.
• Operate and monitor pumps, mixers, tanks, solidification equipment, and related systems; report abnormal conditions promptly.
• Complete work under approved procedures, permits, and Radiological Work Permits (RWPs).
• Maintain accurate logs, records, manifests, and process data.
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with proper waste segregation and housekeeping expectations.
• Respond to spills, leaks, alarms, or abnormal conditions; report near misses and unsafe situations.
• Work collaboratively with waste operations, environmental, radiological control, safety, and production teams.
• Support continuous improvement and safe, efficient waste-processing operations.

Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or associate degree preferred.
• 4+ years of experience in waste handling, chemical processing, or industrial operations.
• Experience working with hazardous materials; radiological or DU experience preferred.
• Ability to follow detailed procedures and work in a highly regulated environment.
• Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and commitment to safety.
• Ability to wear PPE and work in controlled or radiological areas.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and recordkeeping.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Pay: $25.96 - $39.42

The starting hourly rate for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $25.96 and $39.42 per hour. The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
