The Safety Technician will carry out established safety and compliance programs at TRAC Intermodal’s Chicago, Illinois service center. This role will support compliance with OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and applicable local, state, and federal requirements; deliver required safety training and communications; conduct site inspections and audits; maintain records; and assist with incident investigations and corrective actions. Working under the direction of the Director, Safety & Compliance and in partnership with service center leadership, the Safety Technician will help promote consistent safe work practices and a strong safety culture at the assigned location.
Position Summary:

The Safety Technician will carry out established safety and compliance programs at TRAC Intermodals Chicago, Illinois service center. This role will support compliance with OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and applicable local, state, and federal requirements; deliver required safety training and communications; conduct site inspections and audits; maintain records; and assist with incident investigations and corrective actions. Working under the direction of the Director, Safety & Compliance and in partnership with service center leadership, the Safety Technician will help promote consistent safe work practices and a strong safety culture at the assigned location.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

- Carry out established safety and compliance programs at the Chicago service center in accordance with OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations

- Implement company safety policies, procedures, and best practices at the assigned service center and provide feedback on local needs or opportunities for improvement

- Perform routine safety inspections and audits at the Chicago service center, identify hazards or compliance gaps, and coordinate corrective actions with site leadership

- Manage Driver Vehicle Examination Report (DVER) processes, including review, tracking, follow-up, and resolution of identified defects or compliance issues

- Assist with incident investigations by documenting findings, supporting root cause analyses, and helping coordinate retraining or corrective actions as directed

- Maintain required OSHA, safety, and compliance records in a timely and accurate manner. Including OSHA 300 logs

- Conduct and audit new hire onboarding tasks to ensure all required safety training is completed

- Deliver established safety communications and training, including daily safety briefs, scheduled joint safety meetings, and instruction on safety best practices, policies, and procedures

- Monitor Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) compliance and promote safe working conditions to reduce or prevent industrial accidents and health hazards

- Track and report safety and compliance KPIs for the assigned service center as directed by the Director of Safety & Compliance

- Perform other job duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements, Qualifications, Education and Experience:

- Bachelors degree preferred, but not required

- One to three years of experience in transportation, logistics, operations, or a related environment working with Department of Transportation (DOT) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) guidelines and regulations

- Strong understanding of federal, state, provincial and local regulations and requirements

- Experience with FMCSA regulations

- Strong computer skills preferred, using multiple local systems, Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite and/or other software

- Ability to work within a process-oriented team atmosphere

- Demonstrated ability to identify problems, process resolution and implement action in a fast-paced work environment

- Willingness to work on any shift and additional hours on an as needed basis

- Effective verbal and written communication skills

- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workloads and handle multiple tasks, exceptional organizational skills

- Ability to travel locally or to other sites on an occasional, as-needed basis

Physical Requirements:

- This position will require the physical ability to walk stairs, climb, use hands, stoop, kneel, crouch and lift/ move objects

- Ability to travel by car and , occasionally, by plane on an as - needed basis

Salary range up to $67,499 plus bonus
