CCS Skills Development and Enhancement Coach
JOB PURPOSE
The CCS program is a voluntary, community-based program that works to help clients with
mental health and/or substance use concerns find stability. As a CCS Skills Development &
Enhancement Coach (SDE Coach), you aren’t just a provider, you are a facilitator of recovery.
You will work one-on-one with clients to manage their mental health and/or substance use
concerns while helping them navigate the essentials of life—health, housing, education, and
meaningful work. Your goal is to empower clients to achieve their highest level of independence
and successfully participate in their community.
The SDE Coach is an integral member of the client’s identified treatment team that has the goal
to maximize independence, stabilize symptoms, and help individuals work and participate in
their communities successfully.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Familiarize self with the Comprehensive Community Services program regulations and
follow specific guidelines as required for this position.
- Provide regular, timely, and professional contact with clients to provide psychosocial services
as identified in the client’s service plan. The work is diverse and adapts to the unique needs
of every client. Primary focus areas include:
- Individual Skill Development: Coaching clients on “soft skills” like problem-solving,
conflict resolution, and self-regulation, as well as “hard skills” like personal care,
financial management, transportation, household organization and
accessing/connecting to community resources and services.
- Employment Support: Providing hands-on assistance with job preparation such as
hygiene, transportation, assessments and offering on-site feedback to help clients
manage work related symptoms or crises.
- Wellness & Psychoeducation: Empowering clients with information about their
diagnosis and helping them build a natural support system of friends, family, and
community resources.
- Crisis Management: Identifying potential crises and utilizing appropriate
interventions to ensure client safety and stability.
- Collaborative Care: Participating in treatment team meetings and clinical
supervision to ensure the client’s service plan is being met with the highest quality of
care.
- Other duties identified and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- Minimum Degree Requirement: Bachelors Degree in Human Services or Related Field.
- Must be able to complete a minimum of 20 hours of Comprehensive Community
Services (CCS) training.
- Must be able to pass a criminal and caregiver background check.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, insured vehicle, and good driving record as
determined by company’s insurance carrier.
Skills:
- Have an understanding of various motivational, educational, and cognitive-behavioral
strategies to support clients in their recovery
- Possess knowledgeable about crisis prevention, intervention, and resolution techniques
and can apply that knowledge appropriately to individuals.
- Utilize Motivational Interviewing skills as a primary collaborative conversational
skill/tool to strengthen a client's own motivation for and commitment to change.
- Regularly contribute to the development of and implementation of program policies,
procedures, and quality assurance activities.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Advanced organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a community-based role. The position will work in client homes and various community
venues. Environments may include exposure to pets, cigarette smoke, and poor state of
cleanliness. There is no “hand-on” care, heavy lifting, excessive standing, or bending.
The SDE is expected to independently manage their own schedule to meet client needs. While
hours are typically during the day, occasional weekends or holidays may be required.
Must have the ability to drive a car and be comfortable transporting a client via a company
vehicle.
