Software Development Manager (SDM), Enterprise Foundational AI

Do you want to shape how every Amazonian meets, collaborates, and gets work done in an AI-native world? Enterprise Foundational AI (EFAI) is building the foundational AI products and primitives that power Amazonian productivity globally, and we are looking for a Manager III, Software Development to lead our Meetings, Collaboration & Productivity team. You will lead a team of 10+ engineers building both the reusable AI building blocks that Amazon builders compose and the end-to-end products that any Amazonian can adopt, while driving a Tier 1 service to a clean, well-managed completion.

Own high-impact scope: collaboration intelligence, and pre-/in-/post-meeting workflows used across Amazon.

Build for leverage: deliver primitives that other builders reuse and core products that solve common workflows independent of org or role.

Lead at the frontier: make AI an embedded, intuitive layer in how Amazonians work, not a separate tool to adopt.

Grow people: develop engineers across levels and shape the next generation of technical and people leaders.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of 10+ software engineers, owning performance, career development, in-flight promotions, and hiring.

- Own delivery, operational excellence, and on-call health for Tier 1 service through its lifecycle, from launch to deprecation.

- Set and communicate clear priorities, maintaining top priority services at large scale while phasing in new initiatives on a capacity-driven timeline.

- Deliver primitives (for example the Meeting Agent Platform, and meeting data APIs) that other Amazon builders compose into their own products.

- Deliver core, end-to-end products (collaboration intelligence, pre-/in-/post-meeting workflows) that Amazonians adopt regardless of role.

- Partner across organizations to sequence migrations and launches safely, and communicate timelines, capacity, and risk transparently to stakeholders.

- Instrument outcomes so enterprises have clear line-of-sight into how their productivity grows.

A day in the life
Your day spans two worlds. In the morning you might review the phased rollout of a service authentication workflow and aligning with partner and security teams on rollback safeguards before accelerating traffic. Mid-day you meet with product and stakeholders on the Agent Platform roadmap, unblocking builders who compose your primitives into their own agents. In the afternoon you hold 1:1s with engineers and review a design for a post-meeting workflow. Throughout, you keep the team anchored on meetings and collaborations as the top priority while giving them a clear, motivating line of sight into the forward roadmap.

Enterprise Foundational AI (EFAI) accelerates Amazon's AI-native transformation by building, integrating, and scaling foundational AI products and experiences that power Amazonian productivity globally. We deliver two categories of work: technical primitives, the unified, secure, and intelligent building blocks that AI application builders compose to ship faster without reinventing common capabilities; and core AI products and experiences that solve end-to-end use cases common across Amazon, independent of organization or job role.

The Meetings, Collaboration & Productivity team is EFAI's engine for how Amazonians meet, collaborate, and get work done. We build both layers of that model within our domain: primitives such as the Agent Platform, calendar MCP tools, and scheduling building blocks; and core products such as post-meeting agentic workflows. Our culture pairs high operational standards with genuine invention: we hold a Tier 1 service bar while inventing the AI-native experiences that will replace the old ways of working. Our aspiration, shared across EFAI, is that within a year every Amazonian uses AI as an embedded, intuitive part of how work gets done, so people focus on high-judgment decisions, creativity, and customer obsession while AI handles high-volume, repeatable work end-to-end.

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 7+ years of leading development of applications backed by AWS services or using other cloud based technologies and services experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience building web applications with React and modern web technologies
- Experience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility and often ambiguous environment

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
