The Infrastructure Operations (MSSQL Database) Senior Engineer -VP is part of the Data Platform Engineering & Operations team, whose mission is to engineer and deliver self-service, performant and resilient database services platform to enable world class product development.

Why this role is important to us

This role will be responsible for leading the Data Platform Global SQL Server Database product, with a special emphasis on on-prem & cloud delivery, and optionally, as needed supporting the Cloud native databases. This role will be responsible for the day-to-day governance of all MSSQL Database  infrastructure platform operations processes, ensuring all technology SLA’s/OLA’s are met, driving platform availability. The individual in this role will continuously support engineering initiatives to build robust products and enhance security for operational processes.  The individual will mentor & mature a team of highly skilled engineers who repeatedly deliver highly secure, scalable, reliable, efficient and automated database technology operations services that are focused on the needs of all State Street businesses 24*7*365 days. The individual and team will also be responsible for Incident, Problem, Change, Knowledge and Configuration management for all relational database infrastructure platforms.  In collaboration with the business, technology peers, and vendor partners, you will ensure that State Street’s businesses have optimized services and operations, enabling greater availability, performance and reliability in the delivery of State Street products.

What you will be responsible for

As Infrastructure Operations MSSQL Database SME you will

- Function as a Technical bridge between Engineering team members including service providers
- Be an escalation point of contact for major incidents for Microsoft SQL Server database infrastructure
- Institute and govern KRI's, KPIs and Metrics related to operational procedures
- Be accountable for Incident, Change, Knowledge, and Problem Management
- Be responsible for end-to- end support for Microsoft SQL Server database Platform including MSSQL /Open systems Database monitoring, investigating problems and developing solutions
- Drive automation of both Engineering and Operational processes
- Manage and support Database life cycle activities, including SQL Server migrations to Cloud
- Work with internal and external auditors to enhance security and implement database auditing processes and participate in security audits .
- Adhere to the customers Incident Management Processes and proactively drive the continuous improvement of the Incident Management Process
- Manage in scope incidents in the Customer IT Environment in accordance with the customers Incident Management Process
- Open required Problem Tickets from Incident Tickets Improving the quality and usage of the Known Error Database and recommended workarounds

What we value

- Hands on experience on database backup and recovery/migration technologies
- In depth knowledge and expertise in Microsoft SQL Server Database Tuning, Performance Tuning , Query optimization.
- Experience in Database Monitoring and tuning using Query Store, DMVs, PerfMon, profiler , event viewer, Extended Events  and other tools.
- Experience working with vendors
- PowerShell or .Net experience
- Hands on experience on High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server and clustering solutions.
- Working Knowledge of SSIS and Reporting  Services.
- Experience on Tanium and other Security products

Education & Preferred Qualifications

- B.S/M.S. Degree
- 10 + years as L3/L4 Production Support Microsoft SQL Server database Administrator
- Microsoft SQL Server, Server security
- Power Shell scripting, Ansible and Terraform, CI/CD experience
- Certification :MCPS
- ITIL

Additional Requirements

- Experience in managing Microsoft SQL Server database support of 24*7*365 in high demanding industry like Banking/Finance for more than 18+ yrs

- Deep understanding of MSSQL /Microsoft SQL Server product.
- Experience with AWS & Azure cloud architectures

- Strong Troubleshooting, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Analytical, Collaboration and Decision-Making Skills. Proactively identify issues, root cause analysis and implement both temporary and permanent solutions

- Excellent Communication Skills

- Automation & Hybrid Cloud Experience

Good to have skills

- Thorough understanding of RDBMS architecture, especially SQL Server
- Knowledge of multiple rdbms; Adaptable to transform and support other databases.
- Ability to coordinate and respond to Audit, Compliance requests
- Experience in Vendor, Budget, & Project Management

Salary Range:
$125,000 - $215,000 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
