Position Summary

The Hospice Administrator is responsible for the overall operational leadership of Primecare Hospice, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care while maintaining regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, and organizational excellence.

This role provides day-to-day operational oversight of the hospice, partnering closely with clinical leadership to support patients, families, and staff. The Administrator is responsible for leading people, improving processes, monitoring organizational performance, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate is an operational leader who can balance business performance with compassionate leadership and understands that exceptional patient care begins with supporting an engaged and accountable team.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership

- Oversee the daily operations of the hospice program.

- Ensure efficient, compliant, and patient-centered delivery of hospice services.

- Develop, implement, and improve operational processes that promote consistency and sustainability.

- Develop and maintain sustainable operational systems, standard operating procedures (SOPs), documentation, and accountability structures that improve consistency, reduce organizational risk, and support long-term organizational growth.

- Establish clear operational expectations, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and ensure timely follow-through on organizational priorities.

- Monitor organizational performance, identify operational barriers, and implement timely solutions.

- Lead implementation of organizational initiatives, process improvements, and strategic priorities.

- Collaborate with executive leadership on organizational planning, growth initiatives, and organizational performance.

- Promote a culture of continuous improvement by evaluating workflows, identifying opportunities for increased efficiency, and implementing best practices across the organization.

Leadership & Culture

- Lead, coach, and develop hospice staff while fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

- Build a culture of accountability, professionalism, respect, and service.

- Conduct regular performance coaching and evaluations.

- Address employee concerns and performance issues promptly and constructively.

- Promote employee engagement, retention, and professional development.

- Support change management initiatives with transparency and effective communication.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality

- Ensure compliance with all CMS Conditions of Participation, state regulations, accreditation standards, and agency policies.

- Partner with clinical leadership to maintain survey readiness.

- Oversee Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities.

- Monitor operational compliance metrics and implement corrective action plans as needed.

- Serve as Privacy Officer and Compliance Officer, or oversee these responsibilities as assigned.

Financial & Business Operations

- Monitor operational and financial performance.

- Assist with budgeting, resource allocation, and expense management.

- Review key performance indicators and operational reports to identify trends and opportunities.

- Promote efficient staffing and responsible utilization of organizational resources.

- Collaborate with billing, finance, payroll, and support departments to resolve operational issues.

Team Collaboration

- Partner closely with the Director of Clinical Services to ensure seamless coordination between clinical and operational functions.

- Work collaboratively with Human Resources, Finance, Billing, QA, Marketing, and Executive Leadership.

- Maintain strong relationships with physicians, vendors, community partners, referral sources, and contracted providers.

- Promote open communication across all departments.

Patient & Family Experience

- Foster a culture centered on dignity, compassion, and exceptional service.

- Support timely resolution of patient, family, and referral source concerns.

- Ensure patients and families receive coordinated, high-quality care throughout their hospice journey.

Qualifications

Required

- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

- Experience in healthcare leadership with increasing operational responsibility.

- Knowledge of healthcare operations, staffing, budgeting, and performance management.

- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.

- Strong communication and organizational skills.

Preferred

- Previous hospice leadership experience.

- Knowledge of CMS hospice regulations and accreditation standards.

- Experience with hospice EMRs (Axxess preferred).

- Experience leading regulatory surveys and quality improvement initiatives.
