Hybrid Work Arrangement: Half time expected in the office (Maple Grove, MN).  Half time can work remote.
The COBOL Programmer’s role is to design, develop, test, analyze, and maintain software applications related to our proprietary pharmacy management system in the support of the achievement of business requirements defined by our forward thinking senior management team.  This includes involvement in all activities of development lifecycle along with performing operational support.  Distributed environment developed in Micro Focus COBOL and deployed on Linux servers.  Drive the profitability and direction of Thrifty White Pharmacy through the implementation and support of innovative applications working with a small, agile team of likeminded developers
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.       Responsible for the development and maintenance of our pharmacy management system as well as corporate projects pertaining to pharmacy operation.

2.       Work with our Data Warehouse team to provide business critical data that enable actionable decision making.

3.       Work independently or with other programmers on larger development projects.

4.       Test programs to ensure proper functionality and design specifications.

5.       Take active role in debugging, fixing, and enhancing systems.

6.       Work with end user to research, identify, and resolve problems that occur on the system.

7.       Assist in writing documentation to describe program functionality for end users.

8.       Monitor performance of program after implementation.

9.       Support front-line Tech Help personnel to assist with more difficult problem resolution.

10.   Any other reasonable responsibilities as requested.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1.       Ability to read and converse fluently in English.
2.       Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent and minimum 10 years related work experience in the design, development, and maintenance of COBOL applications.
3.       Competent to work on a high level of application systems analysis and programming activities.
4.       Experience working with the Linux operation system a plus.
5.       Experience with legacy system modernization a plus.
6.       Must be self-motivated and capable of working in both an interactive team environment and independently.
7.       Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
8.       Ability to gain both an overview and a detailed understanding of complex systems.  Requires good analytical skills.
9.       Good attendance and punctuality is required in order to fulfill the essential job functions.
10.   Ability to prioritize and see tasks through to completion within a tight schedule.
11.   Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
