Position Summary

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for leading the day-to-day shipping operation to ensure products are shipped safely, accurately, and on time. This position oversees the preparation and shipment of finished goods, including packing, labeling, staging, loading, and shipment documentation, while ensuring compliance with company standards and customer requirements.

The Shipping Supervisor serves as a visible, hands-on leader on the floor and is responsible for providing daily direction, coaching, and support to the Shipping team. This role works closely with Production, Materials, Planning, and other departments to maintain an efficient flow of finished goods and meet customer delivery expectations.

Responsibilities

A typical day may include:

- Lead and reinforce safety standards, including PPE requirements and safe material-handling practices.

- Supervise daily Shipping activities to meet safety, quality, accuracy, productivity, and on-time delivery expectations.

- Maintain a visible, hands-on presence on the floor and provide employees with daily direction and support.

- Coordinate staffing, workflow, and priorities based on production schedules and shipping requirements.

- Ensure products are properly packed, labeled, staged, loaded, and prepared for shipment.

- Verify shipment accuracy and compliance with customer, carrier, and company requirements.

- Train, coach, and develop employees to meet established performance and safety expectations.

- Monitor department performance and proactively address workflow, staffing, quality, and operational issues.

- Partner with Production, Materials, Planning, and other departments to ensure the timely movement and shipment of finished goods.

- Maintain inventory accuracy and appropriate organization of products and materials within the Shipping area.

- Ensure shipping documentation, labeling, shipment tracking, and related system transactions are completed accurately and timely.

- Enforce company policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions.

- Address employee performance and conduct concerns through coaching, documentation, and corrective action, as appropriate.

- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to improve efficiency, throughput, accuracy, and overall department performance.

- Maintain 5S standards and ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

- Support other Shipping and operational activities as business needs require.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelors degree preferred.

- 3–5 years of supervisory or leadership experience in manufacturing, shipping, distribution, logistics, or warehouse operations.

- Experience working in a union manufacturing environment preferred.

- Working knowledge of shipping, logistics, warehousing, and material-handling processes.

- Forklift experience and a strong understanding of safe material-handling practices.

- Familiarity with inventory systems, shipping documentation, labeling, and shipment-tracking processes.

- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and hold employees accountable for performance and safety expectations.

- Strong communication, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changing operational requirements in a fast-paced environment.

- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and organizational levels.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business systems.

Position Details

- Employment Type: Regular, Full-Time

- Shift: First Shift, aligned with the production schedule of approximately 7:00 AM–3:30 PM

- Location: Hollister-Whitney, Quincy, IL – On-Site

- Supervisory Responsibility: Approximately 15–25 employees
