About this role

Position Overview

The admission counselor role promotes and represents the university to prospective students and families and assists them throughout their college search and enrollment process. This position reports to an Associate Director of Admission and is responsible for all aspects of recruiting prospective first year (and transfer) students. This position will support multiple recruitment projects and programs and use a strategic approach to territory management with the guidance and support of the senior admission team. This role serves in a primarily on-campus capacity during the regular work week with flexibility based on required travel and approved work from home options that may include one to two days a week depending on season/workload.

Application review will begin towards the middle to late October.

Responsibilities

- Recruitment Territory & Travel

- Strategically manage an assigned territory involving approximately 6-12 weeks of travel such as high school visits, college fair attendance, student and parent panel participation, interviews, case studies, and prospective or admitted student receptions. Travel responsibilities will be spread throughout the fall and spring semesters, with some weekend travel and/or campus-based responsibilities required (campus visits and events).

- Cultivate relationships with students and parents, school/college counselors, independent counselors, and community-based organizations in recruitment territory.

- Review and holistically evaluate approximately 400-1000 applications for assigned territory. Also review and make recommendations on applications for supplemental scholarship opportunities.

- Plan and execute data-driven travel based on demographic analyses, market research, and other admission data to high schools and college fairs in assigned territory; 25-75+ high school visits, 5-25+ college fairs, 10-30+ days of travel, including overnight travel.

- Counsel and guide students and parents on the admission and financial aid process to support enrollment via phone, text, interview, campus visit programs, etc.

- Coordinate or help facilitate off-campus events and meetings for prospective/admitted students (including virtual).

- Regular and consistent communication with prospective (and admitted) students and families, as well as high school counselors and administrators, using a variety of methods and strategies.

- Campus-Based & Other Responsibilities

- Assist with, and participate in, all admission events (Discover Butler Preview Day, Open House, Butler Bound Weekend, etc.) and daily visits. This also includes Office of Admission or Division-wide events.

- Regularly present and facilitate in-person and virtual Information Sessions and Admitted Student Visits. Serve as Counselor of the Day (COD) 2-4 times per month.

- Serve as primary or secondary liaison to other academic or student support offices.

- Serve on an appointed admission application review committee.

- Attend meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops.

- Serve as member of the regional professional association and attend professional development conferences / opportunities when available.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree.

- Minimum 1-2 years college admission experience or other professional experience in working with college bound students.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills including presentation skills.

- Excellent organizational skills – detail oriented.

- Experience in selective admission review processes.

- Strong teamwork skills for providing solutions.

- Flexibility in a changing environment.

- Willingness to work extra hours and/or weekends when needed.

- Valid U.S. driver’s license.

- Individuals serve in a primarily on-campus role during the regular work week with flexibility based on required travel and approved work from home options that may include one to two days a week depending on season/workload.

Preferred Qualifications :

- 3-4 years of college admission, college access/counseling, or related experience.

- Experience in database management and/or manipulation (knowledge of Slate or other Admission CRM is highly valued).

- Experience working in financial aid or strong knowledge base of the financial aid process preferred

- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

- Charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, impaired or under the influence of drugs.

- Charged with any moving traffic violations or parking citations. (in the last three years)

- Had driver’s license suspended for any reason.

- Been involved in any vehicular accident. (in the last three years)
