ABOUT THE ROLE

Pine Street School is seeking a flexible, energetic educator to cover a parental leave from early December 2026 through the end of the 2026–2027 school year. The Temporary Spanish/Physical Education Teacher will teach Physical Education (Grades 4 - 8) and Spanish in Middle School (Grades 6 - 8), aligned with the International Baccalaureate program for both Primary and Middle School (IBPYP and IBMYP)

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who can step into an established program mid-year, build strong relationships with students quickly, and keep their learning moving forward with joy and consistency.

START DATE: Early December 2026

END DATE: End of the 2026–2027 school year (June 2027)

Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

- Plan and deliver engaging Physical Education instruction for students from Grade 4 - Grade 8, emphasizing inquiry, skill development, and lifelong wellness.
- Plan and deliver Spanish language acquisition instruction to Grade 6 - 8, using Spanish consistently as the language of instruction.
- Continue existing unit plans and curriculum maps, adapting lessons as needed to maintain continuity for students throughout the leave period.
- Design and implement assessments that reflect IB best practices, supporting student reflection, goal setting, and growth.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, abilities, language levels, and learning styles of all students.

Student Development & Wellbeing

- Foster a positive, inclusive environment that builds confidence, collaboration, and resilience.
- Promote healthy habits, movement, and social-emotional development as integral components of student learning.
- Work closely with teaching teams and student support staff to ensure appropriate accommodations and support for all learners.

Program Collaboration & School Integration

- Coordinate with the teacher on leave (where possible), the Head of Curriculum, and specialist colleagues to ensure a smooth transition into and out of the role.
- Support school-wide initiatives, performances, assemblies, and community events (e.g., AMP events), contributing to a cohesive student experience.

Operations & School Life

- Participate actively in school-wide responsibilities, including arrival, dismissal, lunch duty, and recess supervision.
- Maintain PE equipment and spaces, ensuring they are safe, organized, and ready for use.
- Provide classroom coverage or substitute support as needed, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork.

Professional Responsibilities

- Participate in faculty meetings, team planning, and professional development, particularly in IB pedagogy, language immersion, and Physical Education best practices.
- Document student learning and complete progress reports for the leave period in line with school timelines.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with families regarding student progress and program expectations.
- Contribute positively to faculty culture, bringing energy, collaboration, and a student-centered mindset to the community.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Education, Spanish, or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching Physical Education and/or Spanish.
- Full professional fluency in Spanish and fluency in English.
- Experience with, or strong interest in, the IB Programme and inquiry-based learning; experience in a language immersion setting is a plus.
- Valid teaching certification (or equivalent) preferred.
- Ability to start in early December 2026 and commit through the end of the 2026–2027 school year.
- Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain it before the start date.
- Commitment to child safeguarding and student wellbeing; employment is contingent upon successful completion of background checks.

Physical Demands:

- Ability to lift and move equipment, as needed.
- Ability to stand, move, and actively demonstrate physical skills for extended periods.
- Ability to supervise indoor and outdoor activities in various weather conditions.

Working Conditions:

- Temporary, full-time position from early December 2026 through the end of the 2026–2027 school year (June 2027).
- Work takes place in the gym, classrooms, and outdoor spaces, including local parks and off-site locations as applicable.
- Occasional evening and weekend work for school events.
