The Senior Manager, Global Design and Standards, plays a key role in supporting the design, implementation, and ongoing evolution of Global AML Investigations standards, ensuring alignment with the Target Operating Model, enterprise priorities, and risk appetite.
Acts as a subject matter expert responsible for operationalizing global design frameworks, driving consistency in the application of standards, and maintaining the integrity of the control environment across regions.
Partners closely with AML Investigations teams and stakeholders globally to enable the effective adoption, governance, and continuous improvement of processes, controls, and frameworks, ensuring sustainable and consistent execution globally.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Global Design & Standardization
Support the design, documentation, and implementation of Global AML Investigations standards across processes, procedures, tools, metrics, reporting, and controls. Ensure consistent adoption of approved standards across regions and escalate gaps or deviations. Contribute to impact assessments and support review of proposed changes to investigative processes or tools.
- Control Framework
Design and sustain elements of the Global Control Framework for AML Investigations, including those derived from regulatory matters, audit issues, 2nd-line testing, and management-identified issues. Track, coordinate , and drive timely remediation, documentation, and reporting, escalating risks and control weaknesses where required.
- Strategic Oversight & Direction
Translate strategic priorities and direction set at the Director/VP level into actionable plans and deliverables. Support execution of key design initiatives aligned to the Target Operating Model and Enterprise AML strategy, providing input on implications, dependencies, and implementation considerations.
- Collaboration
Facilitate coordination across Global AML Investigations teams and partners to support consistent interpretation, application, and adoption of standards. Drive the sharing of best practices, lessons learned, and emerging risks, ensuring alignment across jurisdictions.
- Support the VP, Global Head of AML Investigations, in the strategic coordination and execution of centralized people and engagement activities, including Pulse, Employee Engagement and Recognition initiatives, year-end performance ratings, compensation planning inputs, and communications (local and VP-specific). Act as a key liaison across the VP’s leadership team to drive alignment, follow-through, and operational cadence.
- Lead and drive a client-focused culture throughout their team to deepen Client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Support the implementation of new AML methodologies and monitoring tools to mitigate new and emerging money laundering (ML)/terrorist financing (TF) and sanctions evasion risks, while conducting ongoing analysis of core operational processes to identify potential procedural gaps and foster an environment of continuous improvement.
- Oversee centralized, group-wide information sharing in accordance with policy. Apply this information in managing reputational and regulatory AML-related risks.
- Collaborate (and lead where appropriate) with key Transaction Monitoring (TM) and AML Investigations stakeholders on audit/issue management and closure, reporting, communications & change management, process/procedure enhancements, resource planning, and special projects.
- Understand how the Bank’s Risk Appetite Statement (RAS) and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Create an environment in which teams pursue effective and efficient operations, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, and conduct risk. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, those defined under the Enterprise-wide AML & ATF and Sanctions Handbook, Scotiabank Code of Conduct, the Anti-Corruption Policy, Scotiabank Information Security Policy, and the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework.
- Consistently acquire extensive knowledge of local and relevant international AML laws and regulations.
- Develop expertise with the applicable case management systems, bank information systems, and analytics reporting tools to identify opportunities for standardization and improvement, and share insights, as appropriate.
- Review relevant Management Information Reports and other analytics tools to identify trends, standards adherence gaps, and improvement opportunities and , where risk - related or productivity concerns or anomalies are identified , escalate them to the Director, as appropriate.
- Employ AML - related systems and process expertise and experience, identify and implement process enhancements, and oversee the resolution of systems and/or process deficiencies.
- Build a high-performance environment by implementing a human resource strategy that retains, develops, and motivates their team, fostering an inclusive work environment and communicating Scotiabank’s and the Global AML Department’s visions, values, and business strategy.
- Strategically anticipate and identify the need for additional resources, leading the hiring and human resource development process, managing succession and development planning for the team, and identifying and promoting high-performing individuals.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:
- Bachelor’s degree (University Degree) with a minimum of 5 years of experience in AML, Compliance, Audit, Management Consulting, Operational Effectiveness, and/or a Program Execution capacity in a major financial institution or a professional services firm; or equivalent in education and years of experience.
- Background in AML, Audit, Compliance, or Management Consulting, Operational Effectiveness, or hands-on program execution is a strong asset.
- Experience driving large-scale transformation, change management, or continuous improvement initiatives from design through execution.
- Strong sense of ownership; proactive and responsive in enabling senior leaders to perform at the highest level.
- Proven ability to develop and execute frameworks, standards, and strategic deliverables .
- Proven ability to influence and drive outcomes across the organization without direct line authority.
- Thrives in ambiguous and dynamic environments, with the ability to communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, including knowing when to ask for clarity.
- Leverages technology and AI tools to drive efficiency, quality, and speed of delivery.
- Proficiency in Spanish is an asset.
- Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist designation is an asset.
- Ability to manage stakeholders and drive outcomes across a highly matrixed organization. Ability to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiency without compromising compliance requirements.
- Structured problem solver with strong analytical capability, able to isolate and prioritize critical business issues. Ability to synthesize benchmarks and internal/external insights.
- Demonstrates integrity when working with colleagues and leads others by setting an example of required behaviours.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to manage difficult conversations.

- Practical knowledge of financial institution operations and organizational culture.
- Results - oriented and highly motivated , with a keen ability to influence others.
- Solid knowledge of Canadian AML regulations and the regulatory reporting framework. Knowledge of international AML regulations or the regulatory framework is an asset.
