About this role
The Role:
As the Product Manager, reporting to the Director of Product Management, you will be responsible for maximize margin performance through cost improvement of a portfolio throughout product lifecycle, across relevant markets and applications pursued by Strategic Marketing.
How You Will Make an Impact:
Portfolio Management
- Product management actions supporting Strategic Marketing direction (considers emerging market needs, customer requirements, regulatory and competitor dynamics)
- Idealize footprint to meet customer demand plan / enterprise capability (direct manufacturing, co-production, tolling or merchant-market purchase)
- Adapt competitor information to set priorities for improved product sourcing, offerings, specifications, and performance
- Develop and lead business cases and tactical projects to consolidate or invest in capacity
- In periods where demand outstrips supply, Product Management leads cross-functional product allocation compliance with contractual obligations while maximizing total value
- Manage product manufacturing trade-off decisions in cooperation with Supply Chain, Strategic Marketing leaders and Manufacturing, and coordinate the implementation
- Serve as gatekeeper for product quality, acting as interface between manufacturing and Segment Managers by approving specification and process changes
- Own product portfolio naming hierarchy and all product hierarchy master data, ensuring accurate and timely updates to source systems
- Timely creation of new SKUs to support business requirements; manage SKU rationalization routinely
Opportunity Planning
- In tandem with relevant stakeholders, lead scenario modeling and business case development to evaluate product-related growth opportunities
- Partner with Market Development to drive efficient new product launches through the stage gate process
- Leverage broad-based portfolio functionality knowledge to identify M&A opportunities in conjunction with Strategic Marketing and New Business Development
Value Management
- Understand manufacturing footprint, supply chain and related dependencies that are inputs to total product cost structure
- Drive value proposition development and quantification aligned to market segmentation to support market-back cost objectives
- Support Sales-led channel management efforts to identify and leverage new and higher value outlets for portfolio
- Use of service level inventory modeling to meet customer needs desired delivery performance targets (OTCC)
- Alignment with procurement for opportunistic raw material purchases to drive down product costs / strategic sourcing alignment with Procurement
Creating Extraordinary Starts With:
- BS/MS Chemical Engineering or related discipline; MBA or equivalent experience is a plus
- Minimum five years of relevant experience with progressively increasing responsibility/scope in business operations or product management
- Prior experience in commercial, manufacturing operations, business development preferred
