Position Summary

The Project Coordinator / Junior Estimator supports the successful execution of fabrication and manufacturing projects by assisting with project coordination, estimating activities, customer communication, and documentation management. This position is responsible for reviewing project requirements, preparing cost estimates, coordinating project schedules, maintaining project records, and ensuring effective communication between customers, engineering, purchasing, production, and management teams.

The individual will assist in developing accurate and profitable estimates for pressure vessels, piping systems, structural skids, coating projects, and related fabrication activities while helping ensure projects are completed efficiently and in accordance with customer requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Estimating Responsibilities

- Review customer RFQs, drawings, specifications, and project documentation to determine project scope and requirements.
- Interpret fabrication, manufacturing, piping, and structural drawings.
- Perform material quantity take-offs and prepare estimating worksheets.
- Develop preliminary and final project cost estimates utilizing:
- Material costs
- Labor hours and rates
- Equipment costs
- Subcontractor pricing
- Historical project data
- Engineering specifications

- Coordinate with Purchasing to obtain material and vendor pricing.
- Assist in preparing customer quotations, bid packages, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain records of open bids, awarded bids, and lost opportunities.
- Support continuous improvement of estimating processes, templates, and databases.

Project Coordination Responsibilities

- Assist Project Managers and Operations personnel with project planning and execution activities.
- Track project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and customer requirements.
- Coordinate communication between customers, vendors, engineering, procurement, and production teams.
- Monitor project status and provide updates to management and project stakeholders.
- Maintain project files, documentation, and correspondence.
- Assist with job kickoff meetings and project status meetings.
- Prepare project reports, meeting minutes, action-item logs, and progress updates.
- Track material deliveries and project procurement activities to support project schedules.
- Ensure project documentation is complete, accurate, and properly filed.
- Support change order documentation and project budget tracking.
- Assist in identifying scheduling or cost-related risks and communicate concerns to management.

Education and Experience

Required

- High School Diploma or GED.
- Associate degrees in Business, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Project Management, or related field preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in estimating, project coordination, fabrication, manufacturing, construction, or industrial services.
- Experience reviewing technical drawings and project specifications.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.

Preferred

- Experience estimating pressure vessels, piping systems, structural steel, coatings, or skid fabrication projects.
- Experience with Compress, ERP systems, or estimating software.
- Knowledge of industrial fabrication and welding processes.
- Project coordination experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Strong understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proficient in:
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Outlook
- Microsoft Project (preferred)

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Professional demeanor and customer-focused attitude.

Industry Knowledge Preferred

Knowledge of industry standards including:

- AWS
- ASME
- API
- ASTM
- NACE
- ISO
- ABS

Physical Requirements

- Ability to work in both office and manufacturing shop environments.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use standard office equipment.
- Occasionally required to tour fabrication facilities and project work areas.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

When entering fabrication, manufacturing, or yard areas, required PPE may include:

Travel Requirements

Occasional local travel may be required to:

- Manufacturing facilities
- Customer locations
- Vendor sites
- Project meetings
