About this role

Position Summary
The System Administrator is responsible for the secure, reliable, and continuous operation of assigned information technology systems and infrastructure. The System Administrator performs system administration, cybersecurity, account management, backup and recovery, software and security update management, troubleshooting, and end-user support in accordance with applicable Department of Defense (DoD), Navy, site-specific, and organizational policies and procedures.
The System Administrator ensures system access is appropriately controlled and aligned with users’ assigned duties, maintains system security and operational readiness, and supports the availability and integrity of mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
• Administer and maintain servers, virtual machines, operating systems, applications, and supporting infrastructure.
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot hardware, software, connectivity, and user access issues.
• Manage user and administrator accounts, permissions, passwords, and access controls.
• Apply security patches, software updates, IAVAs, antivirus updates, and required configuration changes.
• Support DoD/Navy cybersecurity requirements, audits, vulnerability assessments, and remediation efforts.
• Perform and monitor daily, weekly, monthly, and annual backups using Veeam Backup & Replication, including recovery and backup verification.
• Respond to incidents, perform root-cause analysis, submit ITSM trouble tickets, and track issues through resolution.
• Maintain system documentation, configuration records, runbooks, SOPs, backup logs, and maintenance records.
• Coordinate system maintenance and outages with customers and government stakeholders to minimize mission impact.

Required Qualifications
• Experience with Windows Server, virtual machines, and system administration.
• Experience with Veeam or similar enterprise backup solutions.
• Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity/Information Assurance practices, patching, IAVAs, and access management.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to support routine and emergency system operations in a mission-focused environment.

Performance Expectations
The System Administrator shall maintain assigned systems in a secure, available, recoverable, and operationally ready state. Performance will be demonstrated through timely implementation of security requirements and system updates, successful backup and recovery operations, accurate account and access management, effective incident resolution, complete system documentation, and responsive customer support.
