About this role

Overview

Inabia is seeking a Mechatronics Test Engineer – Hardware Verification & Validation to develop and execute comprehensive test programs, plans, and methodologies for subsystem and complete system verification and validation. This onsite role in North Reading, MA supports the development of new technologies and products in robotics and automation, with a strong emphasis on test bench design, instrumentation, data acquisition, data processing, and engineering analysis. The ideal candidate will transform raw measurement data into clear, actionable engineering insights that drive product and design decisions.

Responsibilities

- Develop and execute test programs, test plans, and test methods for complex hardware/software systems.
- Identify appropriate test plans, methodologies, and equipment based on different stages of product development.
- Develop functional specifications, Design Verification Plans (DVPs), and functional test procedures.
- Develop test strategies for complex hardware/software systems and systems of systems.
- Design, commission, and operate test benches for robotic and electromechanical systems.
- Test and validate systems involving actuators, batteries, sensors, cameras, and other electromechanical components.
- Perform subsystem verification and complete system verification and validation testing.
- Select and configure appropriate instrumentation and laboratory equipment.
- Acquire, process, and analyze test data to determine system performance metrics.
- Create detailed test reports comparing test results against specifications and requirements.
- Translate test data into actionable engineering insights and recommendations.
- Feed test results back into the product design and development cycle.
- Support new technology and product development programs from concept through validation.
- Collaborate with engineers across electrical, mechanical, software, systems, and other disciplines.
- Identify and resolve technical issues encountered during testing.
- Develop practical test solutions in a high-ambiguity environment where requirements may evolve throughout the development lifecycle.

Key Qualifications

- Experience developing functional specifications, Design Verification Plans (DVPs), and functional test procedures.
- Experience developing test strategies and plans for complex hardware/software systems or systems of systems.
- Experience developing and executing tests in a high-ambiguity, fast-evolving development environment.
- Strong understanding of hardware verification and validation methodologies.
- Experience with test bench development and operation.
- Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition, and test data analysis.
- Ability to interpret test results and communicate engineering findings effectively.
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card) required; no H1B, OPT, CPT, or other visa sponsorship available.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent field.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary engineering teams to execute product development from concept through production.
- Experience managing technical projects and coordinating technical deliverables.
- Experience selecting, sourcing, commissioning, and setting up laboratory and test equipment from third-party vendors.
- Experience working with robotics, automation, electromechanical systems, or complex hardware products.
- Experience with system-level verification and validation.
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, highly collaborative engineering environment.
