Summary
The Plant Operations Internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment while developing practical skills related to the candidate’s field of study. The intern will lead a defined improvement project focused on milk yield, operational efficiency, waste reduction, or another key manufacturing process. They will use operational data to identify opportunities, determine root causes, implement improvements, and measure results.
Responsibilities
- Lead a defined process improvement project focused on milk yield, operational efficiency, waste reduction, or another plant priority
- Collect and analyze operational data to identify trends, losses, and improvement opportunities
- Develop recommendations, help coordinate implementation, and track results
- Conduct studies of manufacturing equipment and processes to evaluate efficiency and performance
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, or Six Sigma principles to support improvements
- Use available systems and data to create timely, accurate, and insightful reporting
- Develop performance standards, metrics, and reporting tools to monitor operational performance
- Present project findings, results, and recommendations to plant leadership
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Engineering, Food Science, Business, or a related field
- Interest in food manufacturing and plant operations
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to take ownership of a project and drive it through completion
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Completion of at least one year of major-specific coursework preferred
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to loud noise and hot or cold temperature
