Intern - Process Engineering

Summary

As a Process Engineering Intern, you will gain hands-on experience working within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. You will work directly with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and other cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, analyze process performance, troubleshoot losses, and implement improvements.

The internship will focus on real manufacturing challenges related to throughput, yield, reliability, process capability, water/utilities, and operational efficiency. You will own or support projects from problem definition and data collection through analysis, recommendations, implementation, and validation of results.
## Responsibilities

- Partner directly with Processing Operations to identify and solve manufacturing losses and constraints.

- Analyze process data to identify trends, variation, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.

- Lead or support projects focused on yield/productivity, throughput, reliability, downtime reduction, water/utilities, and process optimization.

- Spend significant time on the manufacturing floor observing processes, collecting data, and working directly with operators and frontline leadership.

- Use structured problem-solving and root-cause analysis to troubleshoot recurring process issues.

- Develop process capability and performance metrics and create simple tools/dashboards to help teams monitor performance.

- Design and execute trials, document results, and determine whether changes delivered the expected improvement.

- Support equipment and process changes in partnership with Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and Controls.

- Build business cases by translating process improvements into measurable operational and financial impact.

- Present project progress, findings, recommendations, and results to plant leadership.

- Develop sustainable standards, documentation, or control plans to ensure improvements are maintained.

Requirements

- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Chemical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

- Completion of at least two years of engineering coursework preferred.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Comfortable working with data; experience with Excel and data visualization/analysis tools preferred.

- Willingness to spend significant time working in an active manufacturing environment.

- Ability to work collaboratively with operators, frontline leaders, engineers, and other cross-functional partners.

- Ability to take ownership of a project and move from problem identification → analysis → solution → implementation → validation.

- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly present technical information and recommendations.
