Embedded Software Engineer

Job Title: Senior Embedded Software Engineer Job Description The Senior Embedded Software Validation Engineer validates, verifies, and tests embedded vehicle control software for both new and existing products. This role ensures the quality, reliability, and functional correctness of vehicle systems through structured validation strategies, simulation, and hands-on testing. You will collaborate closely with software development, systems, hardware, manufacturing, supplier, sales, and product teams to validate vehicle functionality, including charging, operation, communication interfaces, and remote drive capabilities. Responsibilities

- Perform functional, integration, and regression testing of embedded control software across vehicle controllers and displays.
- Develop, execute, and maintain detailed test cases, test procedures, and validation documentation for embedded vehicle systems.
- Identify gaps in existing test coverage and implement improvements to enhance overall software quality and robustness.
- Develop and implement simulation-based testing for embedded systems consisting of multiple interacting controllers.
- Support validation activities using vehicle communication interfaces such as CAN and Ethernet.
- Troubleshoot software issues in new and existing products to determine root cause with minimal supervision.
- Provide on-site support for production software issues as required, ensuring timely resolution and minimal impact on operations.
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve software defects efficiently and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
- Work closely with software, hardware, and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration across vehicle subsystems, including propulsion, hydraulic, pneumatic, and cab systems.
- Interface with suppliers to support firmware updates, integration, and continuous improvements.
- Collaborate with sales and product teams to understand customer requirements and translate them into validation needs and test coverage.
- Communicate validation progress, risks, and issues clearly using internal project management and tracking tools.
- Ensure validation activities meet defined performance, quality, cost, and timing requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of validation processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency and coverage.

Essential Skills

- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or another engineering discipline with relevant industry experience.
- At least 57 years of experience working with embedded systems.
- Hands-on experience with embedded software validation and testing for vehicle or similar control systems.
- Proficiency with Python programming for test automation, scripting, or tooling.
- Proficiency with C programming for embedded software and low-level system interactions.
- Familiarity with vehicle communication interfaces and tools such as CAN and Ethernet.
- Experience working with embedded controllers, displays, and vehicle subsystems.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documenting test results and communicating issues.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team, managing tasks and priorities with minimal supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing environments is highly recommended.
- Background in embedded software and embedded systems development or validation.
- Experience with vehicle systems, including propulsion, hydraulic, pneumatic, and cab systems.
- Experience with software validation processes, methodologies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Familiarity with canbus tools and related diagnostic or test equipment.
- Experience using internal project management and tracking tools to report validation progress and issues.

Work Environment You will work in a collaborative engineering environment focused on embedded vehicle systems and software validation. The role involves a blend of office-based work for test design, documentation, scripting, and coordination, as well as lab or shop-floor environments for simulation-based testing, HIL testing, and hands-on validation on vehicle controllers and displays. You will regularly use tools and technologies such as CAN and Ethernet interfaces, embedded controllers, simulation platforms, and project tracking systems. The position requires close collaboration with software, hardware, systems, manufacturing, supplier, sales, and product teams to support both development and production environments.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, KS.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $51.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
