Azure Cloud Engineer (Platform & Identity)

THE ROLE

The Azure Cloud Engineer will serve as a hands-on technical contributor responsible for the administration, optimization, and continuous improvement of our Microsoft Azure cloud environment. This role partners closely with Architecture, Security, Data, and Application teams to ensure cloud platforms are secure, scalable, standardized, and aligned with industry best practices.

This position is ideal for an experienced cloud administrator who not only understands how to operate cloud platforms, but who can also recommend improvements, define standards, document processes, and implement changes that improve reliability, efficiency, and governance.

Key responsibilities include:

- Administer, monitor, and maintain Azure cloud infrastructure across compute, networking, storage, identity, and platform services.

- Manage and support Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) , including identity lifecycle management, access controls, conditional access, security groups, and integration with cloud and SaaS platforms.

- Administer and support Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager , including device compliance policies, configuration profiles, application deployment, and endpoint security integrations.

- Support and administer Microsoft Fabric and related data platform services from a platform and governance perspective, partnering closely with data engineering and analytics teams.

- Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using tools such as ARM, Bicep, Terraform, or equivalent.

- Collaborate with Architecture and DevOps teams to align cloud environments with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automation standards .

- Establish and maintain cloud operational standards including naming conventions, tagging, monitoring, backups, cost management, and security baselines.

- Identify inefficiencies, technical debt, and manual processes; propose and implement automation or platform improvements.

- Develop and maintain clear technical documentation, standards, and operational runbooks.

- Support cloud security initiatives by implementing least-privilege access, security monitoring, and compliance controls.

- Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement efforts.

- Evaluate new Azure services and Microsoft platform capabilities and recommend adoption where appropriate.

WHAT YOUR RESUME SHOWS

While adaptability and a strong learning mindset are critical, successful candidates will typically bring many of the following qualifications:

Education & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

- 2+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure or cloud administration roles.

- Hands-on experience administering production cloud environments.

Cloud & Platform Skills

- Strong experience with Microsoft Azure , including core services such as:

Virtual Machines, App Services, Storage Accounts

- Virtual Networks, Subnets, VPNs, Private Endpoints

- Monitoring, logging, and alerting

- Experience administering Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) , including security and identity governance concepts.

- Experience with Microsoft Intune or endpoint management platforms.

- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Power Platform, or Azure data services from a platform administration perspective.

- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM, etc.).

DevOps & Automation

- Familiarity with DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and automation practices.

- Experience with source control systems (Git) and infrastructure deployment automation.

- Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, or similar) for automation and administration.

Security & Governance

- Understanding of cloud security best practices, identity-based access control, and least-privilege principles.

- Familiarity with monitoring, compliance, and cost management practices in cloud environments.

Preferred / Nice to Have

- Microsoft certifications (Azure Administrator, Azure Security Engineer, Azure DevOps Engineer, or similar).

- Experience supporting multi-subscription or enterprise Azure environments.

- Exposure to FinOps practices or cloud cost optimization.

- Experience in regulated or security-conscious environments.
