What is the Role:

- The Infrastructure Transformation & Platform Modernisation Lead is a senior leadership role within the Enterprise Delivery (COO) organisation, forming an integral part of the Technology Platforms & Architecture leadership team and reporting directly to the Head of Technology Platforms & Architecture

- The successful candidate will have accountability for defining, shaping and executing the organisation's Infrastructure Transformation Strategy across on-premise, hybrid and cloud technology environments. This strategy is a critical enabler of the organisation's business ambitions and technology vision, underpinning the modernisation of the platforms, operational capabilities and architecture that support critical national financial infrastructure, customer services and enterprise operations.

- The role holder will lead a multi-year transformation agenda focused on simplification, platform modernisation, technology automation, engineering enablement, AI Operations and predictive resilience. Working collaboratively across technology domains, the role will accelerate the evolution from traditional infrastructure operations towards adaptive technology platforms characterised by automation, observability, intelligent operations, self-healing capabilities and engineering-led delivery models.

- The role holder will act as a strategic transformation and enablement leader, partnering with platform leaders, engineering teams and solution architects to drive consistency, remove complexity, improve resilience and establish modern ways of working. The role will focus on enabling and scaling engineering, platform and architecture excellence across Technology Platforms and Architecture while operational ownership and accountability remain within the respective technology domains.

Key Accountabilities:

- Hold accountability for shaping, driving and implementing the Infrastructure Transformation Strategy across cloud, on-premise and hybrid technology platforms, establishing a clear roadmap aligned to business and technology objectives.

- Lead the simplification of technology platforms through rationalisation, standardisation and modernisation initiatives that reduce operational complexity, technical debt and delivery friction.

- Establish and drive an Infrastructure Automation strategy leveraging Infrastructure as Code, policy-as-code, automated provisioning, lifecycle management and intelligent orchestration capabilities.

- Define and execute a comprehensive AI Operations strategy incorporating predictive analytics, observability, event correlation, anomaly detection, automated remediation and intelligent operational insights.

- Drive the adoption of predictive resilience capabilities across critical technology services, ensuring risks, vulnerabilities and service degradation indicators are identified and addressed before customer or business impact occurs.

- Lead strategic transformation programmes spanning cloud adoption, platform consolidation, workload placement, technology currency, operational resilience and service modernisation.

- Establish enterprise-wide observability capabilities providing real-time insights into service health, operational risk, platform consumption, resilience indicators and technology performance.

- Drive adoption of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), platform engineering, reliability engineering and modern operational practices across technology teams.

- Ensure transformation initiatives align with regulatory obligations, cyber security requirements, operational resilience standards and critical service recovery objectives.

- Influence strategic technology investment decisions, ensuring transformation activities deliver measurable business value, operational improvements and sustainable long-term outcomes.

- Lead strategic engagements with technology vendors, service providers, cloud providers and transformation partners to accelerate delivery and maximise investment outcomes.

- Build strong relationships with senior business and technology stakeholders, providing leadership and strategic guidance on infrastructure modernisation, technology transformation and future platform evolution.

- As a key member of the Technology Platforms and Architecture leadership team, drive cultural change through engineering excellence, automation-first thinking, resilience-by-design and AI-enabled operations.

Engineering, Platform and Architecture Enablement

- Partner with Infrastructure, Cloud, Network, Security, Workplace and Platform Leadership teams to establish and accelerate modern engineering and platform operating models that improve delivery speed, resilience, security and customer outcomes.

- Enable engineering teams through the development of common standards, reusable patterns, automation frameworks, reference architectures, golden paths and self-service platform capabilities that reduce complexity and accelerate delivery.

- Lead the development of shared platform capabilities that provide common tooling, automation, observability and engineering services, enabling technology domains to focus on delivering business value rather than managing undifferentiated infrastructure.

- Partner with technology leaders to establish platform engineering capabilities that create scalable, reusable and resilient technology foundations across on-premise, cloud and hybrid environments.

- Work in conjunction with engineering leaders to drive the adoption of Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), AI Operations, predictive resilience and automated recovery capabilities.

- Establish and facilitate engineering and platform communities of practice, creating greater consistency, collaboration and capability development across Technology Platforms and Architecture.

- Define and measure engineering and platform maturity through metrics focused on automation adoption, operational resilience, deployment effectiveness, platform consumption, self-service capabilities and engineering productivity.

- Support engineering teams in implementing self-healing platforms, intelligent automation and predictive operational capabilities, ensuring transformation outcomes are embedded within operational delivery models.

Architecture Enablement

- Partner with Enterprise and Solution Architecture teams to establish technology patterns, standards, design principles and reference architectures that simplify solution delivery and improve consistency across Technology Platforms and Architecture.

- Enable solution architects through the creation of reusable architecture building blocks, approved platform services and standard integration patterns that accelerate delivery while reducing complexity, cost and risk.

- Drive alignment between architecture strategy, platform roadmaps and infrastructure transformation priorities, ensuring investment decisions support the long-term evolution of technology platforms.

- Establish architecture guardrails that balance innovation, agility and autonomy with resilience, security, supportability and regulatory compliance.

- Promote resilience-by-design, automation-by-design and operations-by-design principles, ensuring solutions are architected to be observable, recoverable, secure and operationally efficient from inception.

- Create strong alignment between architects, engineers and platform teams, ensuring strategic designs can be delivered, operated and continuously evolved throughout their lifecycle.

What you Will Bring:

- Excellent knowledge of infrastructure engineering, platform technologies, architecture practices and cloud services gained over a minimum of 10 years' experience within complex enterprise or regulated financial services environments.

- A minimum of 5 years' experience operating at senior leadership level with responsibility for large-scale technology transformation, platform modernisation and organisational change programmes.

- Demonstrated experience establishing and executing transformation strategies encompassing cloud adoption, automation, platform engineering, operational resilience and technology simplification.

- Proven experience implementing AI Operations, observability, Infrastructure as Code, predictive analytics, self-healing technologies or autonomous operational capabilities delivering measurable business outcomes.

- Strong experience leading cross-functional technology initiatives, influencing senior stakeholders and driving organisational change within complex matrix environments.
