Learning & Community Engagement Internship

Marbles Kids Museum is a vibrant, nonprofit children’s museum and IMAX Theatre located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Marbles has been sparking imagination, discovery, and learning through play since opening its doors in 2007. Marbles’ serves a diverse population of families, school groups, and community organizations through award-winning play-based exhibits, summer camps, IMAX documentaries, feature movies, and special events year-round. Today Marbles ranks among the top family destinations in North Carolina providing learning experiences for children with creative programs, and larger-than-life movies.

The Opportunity

Are you passionate about inspiring children and the community through the power of play? At Marbles, we deliver engaging, hands-on learning experiences to school groups, museum guests, and out in the community. We also listen to our guests, gather information, and evaluate their feedback to better understand and improve their experience.

As part of the Engagement Team, the Intern will gain hands-on experience assisting with the preparation and delivery of programs for school groups and museum guests. They’ll support special events both at Marbles and in the community and assist with conducting surveys to better understand what motivates our guests.

Interns will gain valuable experience relevant to careers in education, child development, nonprofit studies, social work, research and evaluation, and more, all within a fun, fast-paced, and mission-driven environment.

This is an unpaid internship.

Essential Job Responsibilities

- Collaborate with the Engagement team to facilitate hands-on, play-based learning programs for museum guests and early childhood participants, with occasional delivery support at off-site locations.
- Engage guests through formal and informal survey methods to better understand and improve their experience.
- Support the setup, break down, and preparation of materials related to Learning & Community Engagement.
- Engage museum guests in a playful, welcoming, and professional manner that reflects Marbles’ mission.
Ideal Experience and Skills
- Must be enrolled in a formal education class that requires an internship for academic credit.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage children and families from diverse backgrounds in a respectful and welcoming manner.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Museum Studies, STEM Education, Recreation, Sociology, Education, Communication, and Museum Studies; other disciplines with relevant experience may be considered.
Physical Demands 
- Walking, standing, stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Schedule
- Weekday availability is required, with one Saturday or Sunday shift per week to support during peak visitation hours.
