Description

Purpose of Position

To provide technical surveying support to the project and project team with the usage of advance instrumentation, provide control points, grid lines, elevations, and other necessities based on project drawings.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Proficient in the usage of surveying instruments such as total station (standard and robotic), optical level, laser level, etc.
- Able to read construction drawings and provide benchmarks from given elevations, establish control points for each project, and set grid line locations and offsets.
- Able to interpret and check site conditions vs design drawings.
- Able to communicate, both written and verbally, any discrepancies found in design drawings or site conditions.
- Proficient in surveying software such as AutoCAD and able to prepare and upload files to surveying instrument.
- Detail orientated and driven to excellence in quality and performance. Attentive to site misalignments and design issues, proactive in problem solving with project team and client.
- Able to mentor and train others in the work, equipment, and software.
- Able to carry, maintain and set up surveying equipment and misc. materials needed for the work.
- Able to complete a layout in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner.
- Able to communicate and share information clearly with team members.
- Must have a valid driver license.
- Able to commute as needed between projects.
- Must have at least one year of experience as a Field layout engineer or equivalent position.
- This position might require travel outside of the region.

Training/Certificates:

- OSHA 30
- Hilti total station and accessories
- Driver license (Vehicle/vehicle allowance and equipment will be provided as needed.)

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Safety

- Must use proper safety equipment and PPE as required for all crew members.
- Maintain up to date training for all equipment required to perform your responsibilities.
- Ensure that handrails and safe access are installed prior to any work.
- Attending toolbox talks with company safety representatives.
- Ensure vehicle/equipment maintenance is performed and submitted for official records as required.

Quality

- Ensure work performed meets or exceeds customer expectations and is built the right way the first time, every time.
- Study shop drawings, addendums, and scope of work-related items, assuring proper and accurate layout.
- Coordinate and verify correct benchmark elevations and grid line locations with customer representatives/surveyors.

Scheduling and Productivity

- Attend drawings preview with team at turnover meeting.
- Determine equipment required for each job to meet the schedule and perform layout.
- Ensure with the project team that our work, and the work of subcontractors that are based on layout provided, meets schedule requirements.
- Prior to the start of the project discuss and coordinate work with the project team.
- Work directly with the project manager to ensure equipment and materials are ordered as required and/or have been ordered by you to perform the work.
- Ensure that all time is submitted through the time keeping software application to the project and is accurately coded to the correct cost codes.
- Plan and organize work schedule with the different project teams as well as equipment resources.
- Manage through leadership and effective communication.
- Mentor, train as well as motivate and inspire through positive reinforcement and timely feedback on expected safety, quality, and productivity related goals.
