Job Description

This is not a remote position.

Basic Purpose

Positions within this job family are assigned responsibilities on a statewide basis for analyzing, implementing, and maintaining security systems at state facilities. Incumbents in this class conduct feasibility studies, perform surveys to audit and make recommendations to design telecommunications, radio frequency (RF) communications systems, closed circuit video surveillance systems, electronic perimeter-intrusion security systems, installation/set up of network equipment as part of a security camera system and key management systems. Incumbents ensure all agency network infrastructure, cooper and fiber, are maintained.

Typical Functions

• Performs surveys, studies, and recommends new security systems or revisions to upgrade existing security systems.

• Analyzes, evaluates, installs, and maintains the agency’s facility operational requirements for need and technical feasibility on communications, security systems, key management systems, and high security mogul detention locking systems.

• Installs, maintains, and upgrades fiber-optic and network cabling infrastructure.

• Installs and maintains high security detention lock/key systems at all levels of locking systems at state facilities, to include pneumatic locks and electro locks at medium- and maximum-security correctional facilities; maintains electronic interconnects associated with mechanical locking systems by using detention locksmith equipment.

• Creates key code systems and writes high security master key schedules for keys to be cut by facility lock personnel.

• Serves as technical consultant in the design, analysis, and application of communication systems using analog, digital, RF and fiber optic networking the security systems, high security detention locking systems and commercial locking systems for state-of-art technology insuring the most cost-efficient systems are utilized.

• Serves as security system consultant and as an advanced detention lock/key instructor.

• Coordinates ordering through purchase orders or state bid process or conducts telephone bids; writes complex technical specifications to purchase; plans budgetary requirements and analyzes technical specifications for bid compliance.

Level Descriptor

This is the career level for the Correctional Security Consultant job family; this is a one-level job family. Incumbents are responsible for performing all functions related to the assigned position.

Education and Experience

Education and Experience requirements at this level consists of five (5) years of experience in designing, maintaining, or repairing electronic security systems, electronic security systems, telecommunications systems, or related equipment; OR two (2) years of experience as an Electronics Technician (Business title: Correctional Security Technician) with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of electronic telecommunications systems application, design, and maintenance; of security and detention instructional techniques and practices; of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) laws; of perimeter intrusion detection systems, Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems, and video surveillance systems application, design and maintenance; and of high security detention mogul locking systems applications, design and maintenance.

Ability is required to read schematics and blueprints; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to design, install, and operate perimeter intrusion detection systems, VoIP systems; and to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form.

Special Requirements

Preference may be given to applicants with experience in a correctional or high-security environment.

Applicants are required to

Lift and carry 50 (fifty) pounds.

Have full color vision to accurately interpret wiring and system indications.

Applicants must be willing and able to work in all environments.

Applicants must be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel, including overnight travel, normally associated with this position.
