- Job Title : Lead Mechanical Engineer

- Type of contract : Long-term At-will

Responsibilities :

- The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible and accountable for all mechanical activity of the assigned program to deliver a proven, robust and reliable solution that meets quality, cost and delivery disciplines

- Leading, coordinating & confirming completion of tasks within mechanical team dedicated to program from quoting to start of production.

- Provide mechanical and legal feasibiltiy from sketches, studio rendings & clay models.

- Quickly response to feasiblity of OEM provided surface.

- Confirm lamp is development to meet all legal requirements of region (FMVEE, ECE, CCC).

- Completion of Technical Design Review (TRD) process, verifying product has been developed to meet requirements of Plastic Omnium Lighting and OEMs design rules, design guidelines, lessons learned and CAE.

- Provide tooling feasibility prior to tool shop involvement to minimize design changes & loops.

- Define and apply robust location and attachment schemes.

- Create assembly sequence for manufacturing evaluation.

- Apply 3D annotation with GD&T to Catia data.

- Create and/or provide direction to model complex Catia V5 geometry

- Review data with avalible Catia tools such as draft analysis, clearence check.

- Review, create & maintain CAD data to confirm to POL methodology and processes.

- Ensure released engineering documentation and CAD information is properly released and communicated to Plastic Omnium Lighting manufacturing/tooling and external suppliers, following the Plastic Omnium Lighting data releasing and transmittal processes.

- Ensure data transmittal process is followed to ensure history of data evaluated is available.

- Review and implement or provide alternitive proposals to close-out open tooling issues.

- Review & approve Ok to Tool data prior to sending to tool shop.

- Ensure product is developed not to exceed cost target.

- Scout for cost optimizations and actively participates in Design to Cost (D2C) sessions and implementation cost saving ideas into the project.

- Develop technical solution without infringing of existing Intellectual properties. In case new design solution is invented during product design process ensure that all required steps for Intellectual property protection of this new design solution are initiated.

- Review, evaluate & track pedigree of components and end items for early customer builds and Design Validation (DV) test samples. Provide feedback internally or to customer of quality of parts.

- Participates in customer & quality audits for given products / projects as required.

- Drive completion of problem solving process (8D, 5 Whys, Fisbone) to define root cause of issues.

- Support development DFMEA, CAE plan, DV plan and legal certification compliance adhering to POL Quality Management System, customer specifications and legal requirements.

- Actively works with team to support successful DV/PV and delivery of PPAP first time through and on time.

- Presently accurate status and progress reports on assigned program/projects .

- Preparation of technical presentations to clearly communication issues & solutions.

Ideal Candidate Profile :

- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering

- CAD/CATIA expert

- Minimum 10 years of related experience in automotive development required.

- Minimum 5 years automotive exterior lighting product development experience.

- Minimum 3 years leading project & team leadership.

- Strong understanding of plastic design principles for injection molding process and tooling concepts. Ability to understand & evaluate component mold flow.

- Strong understanding of joining concepts, i.e. welding, staking, screwing…

- Understanding of optical concepts, i.e. reflector, light pipe, light blade, projector…

- Understanding of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) and LED system layout.

- Expert Catia V5 skills, including Part Design sketch based solid modeling, Generative Shape

- Design surface creation and 3D Functional Tolerancing & Annotation detailing.

- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.

- Experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing a team.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.

- Must have strong English language skill – both conversational and technical.

- Communication skills with the customer, co-workers, and supporting/interfacing organizations.
